So.. when do we get seashells?

Only members who joined after we discontinued the distribution of welcome bells will receive the new seashell currency, so anyone who joined during or after October of 2015. There's currently no estimate as to when seashells will be distributed, but we hope to have the new system up before too long.
Oh, I must've misread the direct. Is it possible for members such as myself to obtain seashells in events etc.?
No, the new currency is solely for those who are new to TBT or those who joined after the welcome bells were removed. They won't be distributed for events and won't be obtainable to longer-tenured members.

Oh, welcome! I think you might, but I'm not sure when the seashells will be distributed. Apparently in a few days??
Don't quote me on this but I believe this is correct: Click on the Shop tab, next to forum home, etc. Once you click on the tab it'll show a shop, no duh. There will be a shop list, and you can click on the seaside shack (visit shop), and you'll see what you can buy with seashells. The username change thing is 10 seashells, but in tbt it is 1200. Each seashell is approximately 120 seashells, you can thank me for doing the math later, so it's rather a "large" currency.

Which is maybe why it's a different currency than TBT, to avoid the reason welcome bells were taken away in the first place.

No, they won't be. There also won't be anymore obtainable after the original ten you receive - so no trading or winning them in events etc.
This is exactly why we are introducing seashells.
