Sorry if I posted this on the wrong board, wasn't sure where to post it so I started here. So I never really played Pokemon TCG when I was young, I stuck with Yugioh, but I am wanting to pick it up. My question is what started deck would you pick up first? I plan to build a deck but the starter decks come with some extras like the rule book, ect. So I figured I would grab one of those and a tin or some booster packs. But I'm stuck on which deck is the best to go with as far as containing good cards and staple cards. Any help would be awesome!

i personally don't think the deck matters too much. But i would get the newer Greninja deck. That greninja is really good.
But what element of pokemon do you want to use? that matters more because you'll want to buy that kind of deck to get a lot of energies .

I was thinking of going with water, I usually main water in the video games

water's are very good.
one tip i would say is if you can buy online , you can buy most cards cheap on Ebay. it saves a lot of money then buying booter packs.

To play pokemon tcg competitively you need a decent card pool and should avoid theme decks and tins as they rarely come with playable cards but if you just wanna play for fun they are a good buy. Note that tins are not ready to play with.

Awesome I found booster boxes for $80 online seems like a pretty good deal, and the tins are more to satisfy the collector in me, so are monster like Kyogre legal for tournaments? And another question, when you're building a deck is it better to stay with one special type and normal rather than having fire and water in the same deck?

That is up to you. Some people like mixing up their types while others enjoy using one only. Some even just mix the types for their abilities.
