Sparkling Snowy Sidekick
Although I've told this tale in previous years, I felt it was appropriate to share it again in the spirit of the event.
When I was in 1st grade, I remember seeing a snowman in someone's front yard that was the most incredible snow design I had ever seen in my 6 short years on this planet. This wasn't your average everyday Frosty; this was a 6-foot tall snow dragon, complete with red and green coloring throughout the head, body, and tail of this glorious beast. Somehow, I had it in my head that I could replicate this dragon in my own yard, so when Saturday rolled around, I headed outside as soon as I woke up to start on my creation.
About 4 hours later, I had made a vaguely animal-esque shape, though it didn't look quite the same as the dragon. I was determined to make it look as close as possible however, so I went inside to ask my mom how I should go about replicating the deep green and red I had seen on the dragon. I recall my mom rummaging through the cupboards, and after a few seconds, she pulled out a small brown bottle and told me to go grab a water bottle with a pop top. She poured a bit of the contents from the mystery bottle into the water bottle, filled the rest with water, and told me to squirt it on the snowman. Apparently that would make it look "just as cool" as the dragon.
Running back outside, I eagerly popped the top and began squirting my snowdogllamapangolin with the contents of the bottle, confused to see that it was a neon yellow liquid and not the deep green of the dragon I was hoping for. The bottle was empty relatively fast, and standing back, my creation looked more like a styrofoam lump that had been melted with caustic substance than the dragon I was hoping for. Feeling relatively defeated, I went back inside and didn't think much about the snowman for the rest of the day.
...That is, until my neighbor knocked on the door later that afternoon. I followed my mom to the door, and when she opened it, the guy from across the street was standing there hysterically laughing, congratulating us on being so "creative" and "brave" with the snowman. I was pretty confused until he said something like "I mean, a peeing dog! That's priceless! Hahahahaha..."
And that's how my dream snowman dragon turned into a peeing dog. Merry Christmas.
For this event, you'll be making your very own snowy sidekick.
While you're welcome to make your snowman out of actual snow, any materials will do! paper m?ch?, glitter, puff balls, foil, food, anything goes so long as you have a new (and recognizable) snowman friend at the end. Feel free to make your snowman as simple or ornate as you'd like, though please make sure effort is evident in your creation! Entries that are deemed as a joke or clearly lack effort will not be counted. Crumpled paper with a Sharpie face doesn't encompass the Christmas spirit.
Rules
- One entry per person! If you submit a photo of multiple snowmen, make sure you specify which is your actual entry.
- Your entry must include a physical namecard with your TBT username written on it. Digitally adding your name to the photo doesn't count.
- Your snowman must be assembled, meaning it may not be drawn or painted.
- The final result must be three-dimensional - no paper cutouts.
- If you change your entry after you've submitted, make sure to PM ME and include a link to your post that shows the updated photo. Please only edit your original post rather than submitting again, and keep in mind all the rules and instructions with your submissions!
- Photos should not be altered/edited in any way prior to submitting, other than cropping or resizing.
- Any form of pre-made snowman is not allowed, whether it be a figurine, sculpture, or otherwise. Your snowman must be assembled for the event. Photos of snowmen made prior to the event will not be accepted.
