Spending tbt?

I'm a little confused about how the things you do here on the forums make you spend your tbt. (sorry if theres a thread on this i looked and couldnt find one)

Often times when I check my currency it will tell me I spend 1-2 bells which I am assuming is for editing a post?
But it just told me I spent 8 tbt on a thread I made, so I am slightly confused.

Any help would be great! Thanks.

Oh, I think it said you made 8 TBT, for example if I make a thread, it will say I have made 5 TBT.

I get the same thing, it's really bizarre. I've only made 1 thread but I get charged for 'thread' all the time

Could it be that TBT calculates bells earned during mid-post autosaves? If that's the case they probably just give preemptive bells and then takes bells away if the post is not submitted.

Just speculating, since I noticed always next to a 'thread: spent xx bells' there's a 'thread: earned xx bells' right above it, with xx being the same amount. It's pretty curious.

if you edit a post, you lose all the bells you made for posting it i think! i'm not sure if you earn some when you add to a post, but it kinda sucks that you lose them all if you fix only like a typo or something

There's an explanation for this.

You don't get punished. When you edit, the Bell Tree has to recalculate how many bells your post is worth. If you add more to your post, you will get a little more bells. If you make it shorter, you may lose a bell. Either way, you get those bells back after you finish editing.
