[spoiler] House Customization Question

With my last house upgrade I unlocked door customization. I am curious about something, however. Are roofs, mailboxes and doors and the only customization options available? I hope not. I would like to unlock, at the minimum, the ability to change the material the house is made of and not just unlock extra roof, mailbox and door options during the remaining house upgrades.

After you've expanded every room and paid off the entire house loans, you get a lifetime of free exterior upgrades.

I've seen them all on Youtube.

They weren't bad, but some of the really great ones that were in NL are gone. (Garden, Sweets, etc).

House styles are gone too. (Zen Castle, Modern, etc).

Nope. I couldn't see zen exterior.

My house in New Leaf was a bamboo hut. When I restarted my town due to abandonment, I went with the zen look. It's a shame it's gone because I'm using the red zen bridges for my island's choice of bridges and might keep some of the cherry blossom items around as permanent island decoration so a zen themed house would be nice (especially since the door and fence are in the game as well).

And unless more mailbox options unlock I think I've seen them all already and wow....honestly I don't see the housing customization options making sense as cut content unless game card space was a factor.

The answer is simple and unfortunate: They chose to sacrifice the traditional things the game offers in favor of innovation and trying new things. Nintendo forgets that just because you can innovate doesn't mean you should. Cutting content always angers or off-puts people, especially when they want to continue using that content in future games.
