So far it seems everyone is focusing on the amiibo cards. Here's some gameplay info.

Roofs!
Designs can be used on roofs. I wasn't able to add the design to the other part of the house or door.

Plots
The weather of a plot can be changed by tapping on it more than once. Plots can also be reused for other villagers.

Windows, curtains and interior doors
Windows, curtains, and interior doors can all be changed too! Curtains can be closed or opened.

Doors are weird. I've noticed that if you want the door to be the same in both rooms that the door is for, you must change the door to the same style in both rooms.

Sounds can be added to the inside of the houses. This is different than music. These are sounds such as ocean waves, stadium noise, the sound of the city, people talking, etc.

Item Limit
I believe the limit for how many items can be in a room is 64. I had 64 tiles down and couldn't place any furniture until I removed some of them.

Picture for reference:

I am unsure if this include items on the wall/ceiling as I didn't think to try those. I would think they are included in the limit.

Room Layouts
Different room sizes and layouts are unlocked with play coins. I'm not sure if there are any more layouts that can be unlocked at a later time. This is what I currently have:

Credits
Once you have designed all of the buildings in Main Street for Isabelle, a ceremony will be held and the credits will roll

Hey, Mint, about the room layouts you unlocked with play coins:
Are the bottom 4 pictures of two-room layouts?

And another question, which I think is more or less answered, as no one has mentioned it: you don't have the option of naming your town--is that correct?

Yes, they are two-room layouts. :)

Yes, there is no option to name the town. Isabelle keeps referring to it as "New Town".

Yes, they are two-room layouts. :)

Yay! That's really neat! The poor villagers deserve to have more than one room! ...though the rooms look quite small compared to the single-room layout. Does each room have to be designed separately, or can you decorate both at once? (i.e., do you decorate one and then move on to the other, and does each have its own little montage scene, or can you move between them and decorate them both at the same time? ...and does the two-room layout count as one job?)

Both rooms have to be designed separately and each room gets its own montage. If you want to skip the montage, press B, but it will skip the montage for every room, not just one room.

Each project (building/house) counts as one job and that includes if it has more than one room. Some of the buildings Isabelle asks you to design have 3-4 rooms. One house/building can be decorated per day, but you can play as many days as you want in one real-world day. It's not based on real-world time like ACNL is.

Thank you for posting this! I'm curious about the play coins though. How much does it take to unlock a new room layout and do you get to pick which one it is?

You're welcome! You unlock all of the layouts at the same time as it's all in the same course. Although, I'm still not sure if more courses will appear later on. So far it's been between 1-5 play coins for each course.

Mint you're truly a magical fairy.

I love the door selections, especially double doors. Could play a role in creating some mighty fancy restaurants. New room layouts are also a huge plus. It'll be nice to stray away from just a square shape.

Updated the first post. I guess this means no houses with more than two rooms. :c

Is there any info on how to play if you don't buy the amibo cards? I sort of like the gameplay element but I don't want to buy the adapter for the old 3DS...

So far I have been playing without any amiibo cards. You just play normally; you don't have to have them to play the game.

Thank you for sharing this info Mint. How do you earn the play coins in this game?

Play coins are earned by walking with your DS. They're the same play coins you use in ACNL and other Nintendo DS games.

Good! Finally I'll have something to do with my play coins. I carry my DS everywhere so my play coins are always maxed out but there's not a lot you can do with them. :\

You actually only need a total of 31 play coins to unlock all of the "lectures" so you still won't have that much to use them for haha.

Oh, ok. So are there IGBs, and if there are, what are they used for?

Hey guys! (You lucky folks already playing, that is!)

A couple of great questions have come up in the FAQs thread that you might be able to help answer.
SodaDog wants to know: Are there placeable stairs in the room rather than near the door?

And xiaonu wants to know: do villagers have random dialogue when you talk to them or do they only talk about their house?
