How the heck am I supposed to get star fragments?? All google tells me is to look up at a clear sky and press a if a star "falls" ;-; i've been staring at the sky when celeste was in town too, nothing happened. I also saw that her star wand needed both star fragments and large star fragments, but i read only regular star fragments were the ones you saw in the sky falling? I'm confused

By doing this myself, I've found that they'll show up on your beach the next day! I made two wishes on two different stars and got an Aries fragment and a yellow star fragment which were laying not too far from each other when I did my daily rounds on the beach. I don't know if they can spawn anywhere else on your island, but definitely check the beach the day after. I'm pretty sure you can get all kinds of star fragments, because how else would you get them if not by wishing at night?

Sometimes it takes a while. You'll hear a specific sound when a star falls, which sounds a lot like chimes. Listen for that and make sure you put away any tools you might have on you if you're bug hunting or fishing, as if you try pressing a when you look up, you'll use your tool instead. I made that mistake and missed a star.

On the nights you have a meteor shower (not all nights) you want to wish on as many stars possible. The next day they'll wash up on the beach.

Also, you'll hear a sound when they shoot in the sky. My understanding is Celeste doesn't always show up when there's a shower. She wasn't in my town when I had one but she was in a friend's when they didn't have one.

So I just wanted to confirm that you can get large star fragments from falling stars. I figured you could, so whoever said you couldn't was silly.
I can confirm if you wish in someone else's island, you do get star fragments the next day on the beach.
My boyfriend and I also tested how many star fragments you can get the next day. We wished during a meteor shower 200 times for the achievement.
The next day of the meteor shower, I didn't get hundreds of fragments (although I didn't expect to) on my beach, but I did get up to 40 star fragments total on my beach throughout the day:
* 32 star fragments
* 3 large star fragment
* 5 Aries fragments
Although I did continue to pick up star fragments throughout the day as time passed in my town, they take time - it was over the course of a couple of hours for me, although I was also working on my island to help pass the time.
It seems to me that there is a limit of 40 types of star fragments in a single day, since that's how many I got when they stopped spawning even though I had over 200 wishes. I also want to note that when my boyfriend restarted his game, the star fragments stopped spawning for him entirely, so he didn't get to collect the full 40 types of fragments that I got to.
