Pokémon Stop arguing about this

I know that me deciding not to buy another Pokemon game means absolutely nothing to Game Freak, but I'm done with Pokemon. My opinion may change in the future, but I've just lost any interest I had in it. Pokemon Legends Arceus completely ruined the relationship I had with the franchise. Honestly. The atrocious new forms and Pokemon, the questionable gameplay, the blatant disrespect to any kind of historical accuracy (which especially infuritates me), the graphics...in my opinion it's honestly just one of the worst Pokemon games that has ever been released, at least in modern times. I've been a die-hard Pokemon fan all my life and it's hard leaving what was essentially my coping mechanism for childhood neglect and toxic parenting behind, but my relationship with the franchise is becoming toxic in itself. I can't keep getting my hopes up for new games then learn that they're just as bad as most people expected. I'm already in a low mood due to hating my new job, and I can't have Pokemon making it worse. I'm not criticizing any of you here that like the games, this is honestly just more of a rant thread for me to get a lot of weight off my shoulders. I just think it's time for me to move on, but I'm genuinely feeling grief and don't know how I'm going to fill the hole in my heart. I tried to give them as many chances as I could, I really did, but I'm at my breaking point with these games. If anything, I'll just stick to the classics and ignore any new generations or Pokemon that come out...but I'm just not sure yet. I wasn't really expecting this to happen to me since I was a huge Game Freak defender during the SwSh controversies, but I've had my moment. If anything, I'm facing more of a loss than Pokemon is. I feel like I lost a friend.

awwww!

i hope your opinion does change :>

I felt the same way except I dropped out before this game that just launched. Sorry you feel that way, but maybe you will find something else that goes with you more.
I know since I left pokemon, I have been looking at other monster games because pokemon was special to me for a similar reason as well. I have found a couple of good ones on Steam, but they haven't launched yet. Kindred Fates and Pal World. I have gotten Temtem and it is fun The battling is way more interesting to me but it doesn't fill the pokemon void for me personally. The thing with Pokemon is that there is a huge social aspect to it. Or at least there was for me. It was fun going online or finding a fellow pokemon fan and talking pokemon. Actually it was one of the things that built my relationship with my best friend when we were kids. We don't talk very much anymore though. Not because of pokemon itself though. Just multiple things. Kindred Fates was hugely popular when it first did its kickstarter and there is still a large following. So I think they very well may work out for me.
I do have to say Animal Crossing does help with that pokemon void though.

Yeah, I don't play AC a lot anymore either. Nothing against it, school and work take up a ton of time for me and I just never really get on my switch. I'm honestly thinking of listing it on ebay, I don't really have any motivation to play it anymore. At least I can sell my massive plush collection and get some extra income.

yeah I sold my switch since my spouse is getting me a steam deck. well whatever works for you. I just know I really enjoy steam and what they have. I don't have a ton of pokemon plush, but I do have a few and I will probably keep them on my shelf. There are a few I would still today never get rid of because of memories. Like my Audino, detective pikachu, espeon, and umbreon.

Aw, that's sad. But it's your opinion and there's no point in forcing yourself into something you don't enjoy.

Personally I grew up with Pokémon, having played Gold when it came out, but Pokémon Black what was truly turned me into a hardcore fan and I just don't understand people who obsess over the first three generations so much. Gen 3 is probably my fav, but Gen 5 is my favorite game because it respects itself enough to not be nostalgia bait. The old games exist, no need to redo them. I absolutely loved X though too, it really reinvented the series after such a strong closure to the 2D era. I also enjoyed Sword, but it was more or less another X with worse features. The wild area was cute though. Didn't play anything else since Black because it just didn't interest me. I picked up Shining Pearl because why not, I don't own a Gen 4 game and it seemed like Nintendo reworked the old features decently. I don't regret it, it's not like I enjoy my current playthrough of Emerald more than my playthrough of Shining Pearl. God, the stories always suck so much, Pokémon Black just went off on that out of nowhere.

Anyway, what was the point. Yes, I enjoy Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rancher Breath of the Wild Area. Very quirky little sidestep of a repetitive series, I think most people wanted an OpenWorld spinoff and I'm glad Nintendo listened to Pokémon fans just once. I have to say, it has that Snap grind, but overall it's very solid. I dislike the boss fights and I wish there was something else like botw shrines or gyms and an elite four, but it's so cool to have complete freedom over your approach. I can attack 5 bidoofs at once. I can sneak attack an eevee. I can just throw a ball at wurmple and it doesn't care. Using attacks helps me complete my Pokédex. There are optional missions to unlock more clothes. I hope there's a free update one day, but surely there'll be a paid DLC. I'd totally buy a gym + elite four + champ DLC though, just print a normal game over it.

But yeah if it's not for you that's fine. You have to listen to yourself and know your taste. Like I don't like Pikmin and I'd never try a game from it. And also I didn't play the new Mystery Dungeons either because they just didn't have that charm and that drama.

I really hope the next big Pokémon thing is Black on the Switch. Or a new Gen 5 title because it's worth it. Or dare to make a new generation without placing old Pokémon in the main game.

I get that, but the implementation of shinies/Pokemon Home/whatever was the biggest mistake. Keep those atrocities in their own games and don't force them into the canon. Pretty much any spinoff game was kinda set aside after a while, and I'm really upset that they're trying to force Legends on everyone as a mainseries game, going so far as to make an anime arc that also makes no sense with it. Now I have to find myself changing my entire online persona because I'm so sick of them making crappy games. But this one drew the line when they lowkey ruined my favorite Pokemon. I'm just so disgusted with Legends that honestly they could release a nearly flawless game in the future and I still wouldn't buy it because one of the Hisuian monstrosities would probably be in it.

I had a lot of negative feelings towards this game like you until I actually played it for myself. I'm pretty happy they're trying something different personally. I felt the original gameplay was starting to feel stale. I do agree a lot of the new forms are pretty bad looking and like I said in another thread the graphics are still not that great. However, the important thing is that it's fun. I know not everyone can or wants to shell out $60 for this game but if you have the money, I say give it a try before giving up on the series.

I've seen/tried enough of this game to say that I'm done. I wouldn't even pay 10 dollars for it, let alone 60. I don't think it's fun at all. The opposite for me. Maybe I'n overreacting by calling this the worst game in the series, but I'd rather go pick up a copy of Hey You, Pikachu than plau this trash again. I'm just tired of Game Freak's mishandling of the series at this point.

I'm a bit curious about the historical inaccuracies, I haven't seen anyone mention something about those. Would you mind elaborating on that?

Sorry you don't like the game.

I'm not sure what era the game's supposed to be based off of, but they made a huge deal to say that the game takes place in the past, certainly pre-industrial Japan. However, various aspects of the game and ads show evidence of modern cameras/smartphones, and so much of the fashion choices in the game can certainly be considered modern. I know that it's a small gripe, but I'm someone studying ancient history as a hopeful profession, so it drives me crazy.

I’m going to be completely honest here. I just refuse to play a Pokémon game without Totodile in it. I need my buddy. I’ve played up to the gen 4 games. I was using action replays or the equivalent to be able to obtain a Totodile, but those were the only codes I was using. I didn’t cheat. I think Pokémon went severely in the wrong direction, though. I didn’t enjoy the games as much as I did in the past.

Also, Hey You Pikachu is a great game. Don’t trash talk it, lol.
(Just kidding.)

I am sorry that you dont like the games anymore. I basically only know these new games and some are good and some are bad. I hope that whatever happens you can find something else that brings you tons of happiness! Maybe oneday we will finally have the perfect Pokemon Game. I hate the graphics... It looks like Gamecube and PS2. But atleast it looks kinda fun!! I am INFURIATED by the fact that one of my queens that actually made it into the game looks like um this. She is kind of pretty but no where near as CHIC AND REFINED AS HER ORIGINAL SELF. (Also I never got REALLY angry about national dex until they booted half of my babies and almost all of my favorites from this game. :( Now I understand that everyone has a favorite and that they should not keep creating more if they cannot keep up with who they have already made. )

I've dipped from buying Pokemon games too so you're not the only one. I want to vote with my wallet and these games to me are half assed and I just can't support that. I've been diving into other series and really enjoying it! Of you want an oldschool Pokemon type game, I'd recommend Nexomon Extinction. I haven't beaten it but it's really fun and scratches that Pokemon itch. You can tell actual love and care was put into it.

I read your post and I can somewhat relate; I’ve pretty much dropped pokemon since the release of USUM seeing as I had never even finished Sun and Moon, haha. The only game I’ve bought after SM was BDSP, simply because Gen 4 is my favorite gen and I don’t think I would’ve forgiven myself if I didn’t buy the remake I’ve been (desperately) wishing for for over a decade. The main series got pretty stale for me as I grew up; turn-based games aren’t really my cup of tea, and while I used to tolerate that in Pokemon, I guess the disinterest eventually caught up to the franchise, too. 😅

I’m personally happy with the gameplay of Arceus (just basing off the trailers), we definitely need more variety in gameplay. I wish they would revive games like the Pokemon Ranger series or make other games that aren’t too similar to the main series.

I haven’t played Arceus and I don’t think I’m planning to in the near future, but I was wondering how much “blatant disrespect with inaccuracy” you see Arceus to be? :0 I can imagine some tweaks here and there with technology as Pokemon is a fantasy RPG more than a true retelling of our history. If the technology in the game definitely looks more advanced than the current technology in modern Pokemon, then I can see it as jarring, but I’d personally let a few ‘modern’ details slip if we’re 100% basing Arceus on our real world. I’m curious about the statement and I’d love to see what you mean, clothes and technologies and all! :0

(Sorry if I offended anyone with my statements on historical inaccuracy!)

I haven't played the game yet, though I will probably get it sometime cause I was really disappointed in BDSP with they never adding stuff and buggy graphics. I mean I'm not gonna try and change opinions but it's a _game_ and I think the history accuracy is the least problem here honestly.

Also yeah it's not supposed to be a realistic history telling, more so borrowing elements and fusing it with Pokémon and tweaking it. I think people generally needs to stop being too woke here(not you but it's always when something new coming out critics rave on about that). Also Japan has a bit different takes on stuff, and, yeah it's fictional fantasy RPG not a history documentary.

Not too bummed by the graphics cause I've played everything and anything games with varying satisfaction and I never tried BOTW so I definitely don't have expectations. My only experience is the outfit they added to PoGo and I liked that, so. Plus it's probably so far one of a few games I will get this year.

I understand it's not supposed to be a history documentary, but it's not one of those games that have a timeless feel. Ths devs were most likely just too lazy to put any type of research into it to add new gameplay features that the game didn't need and their ugly regional variants that they're going to shove down our throats. But ignoring all of that, I'm burned out. Bad Pokémon game after bad Pokémon game has been exhausting me and I'm just at my breaking point. There's a certain point where you need to just step away, and this is mine. I'm not saying that anyone here has been doing it, but people in my personal life have been white knighting this garbage game and I'm tired of arguing about it. I have better things to put the time and energy into than a Pokemon game. I'm ready to get rid of everything Pokemon related I own and move on with my life.

not even gonna lie I hate what they did to Lilligant lol, she looks like she's trying too hard to be a Roserade when she was beautiful just as she was 😞

I personally have kinda given up on newer Pokemon games as well, but I'm hoping to try out this one, or at least Shield, so I can shiny hunt the newer Pokemon. that's my favorite thing to do in these games so as long as most of my favorite shinies are still in the game then I'm willing to try it.

personally I just stick with the older games, especially Omega Ruby (my favorite game in the series). would love to try BW at some point, if I can ever get a copy for a decent price. if the new games aren't satisfactory for you then I would suggest going back and replaying the older games :)
