So this game really looks interesting to me. It reminds me of a mix between Animal Crossing and Fantasy Life. But I'm not sure if it's something I'll be interested in since I haven't played any farming simulators, and I've never been interested in them either. Could somebody tell me what the Harvest Moon series' appeal is? What are some good things about it? Does this game look better than all the Harvest Moon games so far? Help me, Harvest Moon fans! Here is the trailer:

I think there's a group of appealing factors. These include:
- The feeling of satisfaction when a crop grows or when you do something small. It's good for those underachievers and those who don't feel satisfaction in their everyday lives.
- It's relaxing, like Animal Crossing.
- Some people want to able to farm and grow crops, but can't because of a disability.

Yeah, it looks better than most Harvest Moon games, especially the newer ones. I'd probably go with Stardew Valley if you're going to get a farming sim though.

Basically, if nobody knows, Story of Seasons games are the original Harvest Moon games, just under a different name. Companies split up but Natsume still had the right to the name so they began making their own version of Harvest Moon. So basically, avoid any new Harvest Moon games. Opt for Story of Seasons instead since it's by the original creators of Harvest Moon creators.

If that makes sense.

I have Story of Seasons and I really like it! Though my favourite Harvest Moon game is Harvest Moon DS. Though that's on the DS.

How is it similar and different to Animal Crossing? :)

Similar
Both are calming and are a non stress game
Both are cute
Both give you lots to do and gives you freedom to do what you want.
Socializing with the townsfolk are awesome in both games
You can decorate your farm like your town in AC.

Different
As open as it is, it doesn't have as much to do compared to AC.
You can't really decorate your room like in AC.
You don't get to choose villagers or townsfolk.
You have to have an interest in farmlife, animals, crops, etc.

Some comparisons :D

Thank you! That's really helpful information ^_^

yeah, i would agree with corrie. i really enjoyed the original games in the harvest moon series, particularly the game cube one, but a lot of it was that i enjoyed the farming aspect a lot. i like planting and watering and picking which crops to plant when (tho i am disappointed they removed the hybridization aspect. that was awesome) and watching them grow. but i also love taking care of the animals and deciding when to buy or sell or breed them. and i do think liking those things is essential to really enjoying the game.

it's more relaxing in some ways than ac in that you don't have to play every day and the time runs faster in game. but less relaxing for the same reasons ha. you can get more easily bored as well, i think unless you are v self directed and focused on your own goals in the game. i would agree that maybe checking out stardew valley first would be a good option.

You may not be able to decorate your home like animal crossings, but you do have some slight controll. You can move and build things for your farm and your home.

I feel like being able to get married and have a family makes up for that difference

Oh yeah, I must mention that one of my favourite parts of Harvest Moon is flirting with all the girls and giving them each gifts to make them fall for me more. :D It's like real life but better! Haha
