I know its not exactly an original idea but I want one of my characters to live in a spooky, elegant mansion-type house. I want a different furniture series for each room. I was thinking Gorgeous and maybe Rococo. What else would work?

I know this won't sound "fancy", but maybe a mad scientist's lab theme. Dangerous labs go along with the "spooky" themes, as well as the library items.

Oh, and don't forget the theremin. It makes a creepy ghost sound.

these all sound like good ideas and some that i would have suggested. you could do an all mad scientist theme in the back or basement or upstairs (like frankenstein) and the rest as 'fancy' so it would keep the creep factor.

go over to angiestown's tumblr and check out her dreamtowns. I'm sure you can get some ideas by checking out the rooms.

Definatly the creepy set! I've got a haunted house going on in my town to.

I'd also suggest using them machines to make like a spooky science lab in the basement. ;)

Using some QR codes helps a lot to!

In my town I recently made an awesome creepy mansion room in Tricki's house. I put plate armour framing the entrance, used creepy and rococo furniture, a pipe organ and some large bookshelves and things like that. I also did a 'teenage monster bedroom' inspired by the weird Monster High dolls, in Mayor Jessie's house. In that one I did gothic black lovely furniture with creepy items, and mad scientist things thrown in. Both rooms were so much fun to make, I was tempted to do the entire houses in that theme. Good luck with your spooky project! :)

I think the Mouth of Truth (from Gulliver) would also make a nice addition since it's spooky and interactive.

i'd suggest having a pipe organ somewhere, i'm sure a lot of people would agree that they can be fairly ominous.

Customize the fabric of certain furniture with a moldy shirt or something similar :d.

I love this idea! The rest are great suggestions, too. Maybe even a piece or two from the Gorgeous Set, but not too much. Just enough to get a "rich" look if you want to have vintage and style amidst the creepy tone.
