I got NP yesterday so I noticed in the VC section that Super Ghouls and Ghosts was there and it was a staff pic. I have that game for SNES and it's pretty cool, so you might want to try it out , or you might want to save it for better games, it's your choice.
Here's my review of it from the Virtual Console Download Center.
The Ghouls 'N Ghosts series is very memorable to most classic gamers. Who could ever forget throwing lances at monsters in a fast-paced side scrolling game packed with great graphics and great music? Nobody! The SNES iteration of the series is perhaps the pinnacle, and for $8, it's a steal. Themed to music reminiscent of Castlevania, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts throws you into the gameplay pretty fast (with "READY GO" flashing on the screen quite soon after start up of the game), but you'll be happy that the game doesn't make you wait through long story sequences (by the way, this game barely even have a story... but who cares!) because the gameplay is just tremendous... The game as a whole is a joy to play. The mechanics work wonderfully, and if you ask me, the fact that after one hit, your avatar loses his armor and only runs around in his underwear, makes the gameplay even better (well, maybe not really, but it's still kind of funny!) Overall, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts is undoubtedly the highlight this week. An extremely fun game that mixes the old Castlevania games with a touch of platforming, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts will definitely satisfy. Highly recommended.
