Okay, so I have a question that no one has been able to answer for me so far. I stumbled across an old version of Nookipedia the other day where it claimed that Tom Nook's full name is actually "T(h)omas Nookington". I know that basically anyone can edit Nookipedia and that it was probably just some random person putting in some kind of joke - but I do wonder if this is based on anything substantial? Like, was there EVER an instant where anyone suggested that "Tom" is short for "T(h)omas" and "Nook" is short for "Nookington"? I know that his name is a word play on "tanuki", and that word play would be kinda lost if his actual name was Thomas Nookington, but I do wonder if there was EVER any suggestion of Tom Nook's name being "a short version of a longer name". I also know that his store is called Nookington's in some of the older games, but this only adds to my confusion - how did he come up with that name? Also, Thomas Nookington sounds super sophisticated and I'm kinda loving it.

Does anyone know? I'm in the need for some AC lore experts. :giggle:

Idek, but my friend was joking about his full name being that so if he was actually right-

Wow

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so I doubt it's canon, but it does make for an amazing headcanon to imagine that this is his full name. Maybe he went by that name during his shady time in the city, even? I don't know. I just love the name. It sounds so cool. (Not that Tom Nook isn't a cool name as well tho.)

I've never heard of this before, but it's interesting. Was there any source or evidence of where this came from? We need to investigate :)

Unfortunately no, the only "source" I could find was someone talking about the old version of that Nookipedia article that someone had altered to state Tom's "full name". It's most likely not legit at all since I can't find any reference to it anywhere in any of the games, but I do still love "Thomas Nookington" as a headcanon idea.

Hmmmmmm.... a bit suspicious, but it is an interesting rumor. This would have been a perfect question to mail in to Nintendo Power... 15 years ago :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Who knows, with the newfound popularity of the franchise nowadays, Nintendo might just go for more character development for him and declare for his full name to actually be Thomas Nookington! Stranger things have happened! :ROFLMAO:

Doesn't look like it's true, but while looking it up I did find that Timmy and Tommy's full names and Timothy and Thomas so that might be where it came from?

Yeah I suspect that's where some of this originates as well. I believe the Nooklings even insist on being called by their full names at some point? (Or I misread the information.) It would be kinda confusing to then have two "Thomas" walking around (even though Timmy and Tommy seem to have gone back to their original names now, I haven't yet seen any reference to their full names in NH), so I guess the chances of Nintendo "revealing Tom Nook's full name" are very slim.

I've never seen Tom Nook refer to himself as Thomas Nookington so I believe that was just a joke edit, but still a fancy name nonetheless!
