Afternoon forums, it's a bright shiny new day :)

If you could go back in time in your own life, to a place that was fondest and most happiest, where would you go?

I think most of us would go back to childhood (if we had a happy one) or perhaps the last day spent with a loved one, but if you could really go for one day, where would it be? For me, I'd go back to a day in my childhood sitting around my grans house, playing the gamecube and sitting in the kitchen with them whilst they chatted about a range of topics and their day. My mum and I visited my grandma everyday as she lived a several minute walk to her house from ours. I have such fond memories of my gran, she was an excellent cook and often the head of their councillor meetings and events. My grandad was a retired welder who loved his horse racing and meetings with his group of friends and family. They both really loved their family.

Enough of the ramble, what about you?

I would definitely go back to 2011 when I was at the final Dallas Mavericks game against the Oklahoma City Thunder when the Mavs won and advanced in the playoffs (NBA). I had so much fun and 2011 was just a great year for me in general.

oof where do i begin!
i'd go back to when i was a child, like before 2009, i just have loads of lovely memories from when i was younger and i don't fully remember exactly when i did everything
maybe i'd go back to that time my parents took me and my siblings to a star wars convention, only because i was too scared to take a picture with darth vader because i was worried he would attack me 😅
but anyway, that part of my life was so fun because me & my family would spend loads time together and we'd all go on holidays and roadtrips around the uk

unfortunately we don't do much anymore since my sister moved out and my parents are always working, so me and my brother just stay home all day and play games, which would have sounded like a nice future when i was younger but now i kinda wish i could go back and spend more time with my family ♡

also more importantly, i'd also love to go back to when i could visit my grandad, i was very young when he passed away so i don't have many memories of him, which is pretty upsetting
my mum has told me so many stories about him and he sounds amazing, i just wish i could see him again 💖

I would go back to my last two semesters of university. I enjoyed my classes (mostly electives at that point), wasn't always studying/trying not to fail my classes, and had time to hang out with friends over the weekend. I also regularly went to a gym with my significant other and began lifting weights. Particularly in January and February of last year, I played Smash Ultimate with my S/O and his classmates in their student lounge when we needed a break from studying, which was really fun.

There are lots of days from my childhood that I'd love to go back to, a lot of general days I'd like to relive again would be any Christmas Day spent with the whole family as it has always been my favourite time of year or any day that I spent playing games with my siblings on the N64.

Narrowing it down though to more specific times I'd pick either of these two:
  • My first (1999) or second (2001) family holiday in Orlando, Florida - since visiting at a young age this has always been one of my favourite holiday destinations and I've been back numerous times since the first two trips but I'd pick one of the earlier visits for a few reasons. These two are the only Orlando trips that all my siblings came on, when we went for a third time some years later my oldest brother stayed at home, so I'd love to go back to a time when we were all together there. Also going back to these holidays would allow me to revisit two places that I’ve never been able to return to on future trips; Disney’s Discovery Island (from the 1999 trip) and River County (from the 2001 trip). There are much better parks I’ve visited in Orlando, I’d say DI is a very inferior Animal Kingdom (with none of the exciting rides) and RC is the inferior water park to the newer Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. We’d visited these two mainly because of there smaller sizes (my siblings and I were too young to appreciate the bigger parks at the time) and we had a great time - especially in River County despite its pretty poor health and safety record. Sadly they both closed to the public the same years we visited them (DI closed about a week or two after our visit and RC closed a few months after we’d been), to get the most out of the parks I’d take Animal Kingdom and Typhoon Lagoon over these two but for nostalgia sake I’d love to go back one last time so that I could have a better memory of them, pictures of them online don’t do the parks justice these days.

  • Family holiday to Ontario, Canada (not sure if the exact year but think it was 2000, between the Orlando trips) - we went to visit my dads brother, his wife and their two children and had a really lovely time. My uncle and aunt had a family home and a second smaller lake house which we spent a lot of time at, enjoying all getting to spend time together and swimming in the lake (which probably isn’t really advisable these days but it never harmed any of us). We also took a trip to see the Niagara Falls while we were there which was an amazing sight and somewhere I’d love to go back to. Unfortunately my aunt passed away a few years after this trip before we’d got a chance to see her again and I’ve only seen my uncle and cousins a couple of times since when they’ve come over to the UK but in the last couple of years my uncle was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and no longer travels, so I’d love to go back to the time when we all got to be there together, healthy and happy.

when i was younger, sometimes my mom and i would go for a drive late at night. we usually didn’t have any destination planned so we just,, drove until we wanted to go home. if i could go back in time, i’d go back to that in a heartbeat because despite how silly it might seem, those memories mean a lot to me and i’d love to go back and appreciate those moments more. <3

My life really hasn't been that happy to begin with so stepping back to a "happier time" is literally impossible.

I'd go to a random day in 2009 or 2010 back to when I lived in California. During that time, I would watch cable tv (when it was actually good), play Club penguin/Webkins or other good computer games, and play on the Wii, and obviously steal my sister's LPS and Polly Pockets (I was a mean 3yo). Probably also go over to my grandma's to go swimming or jump on the trampoline while eating ice pops.
If we were out in town, there was this one inflatable bounce castle-type place my grandma would take us to. Me and my sisters loved it.
Sometimes we'd even explore the acre lots we lived on. I remember the groups of weeds really hurting and they'd stab you.

I was living my best life then.

I don't really know if there's any part of my childhood that I would like to go back to, it's all been pretty shotty and my life has only been improving the more independent I become.

that being said, I do miss the year 2013, the year that 3D World was announced (on my 14th bday) and released, the year Pokemon X/Y was released, the year that a lot of cool popular songs came out, and also the year I played Paper Mario 64 for the first time. I also enjoyed my freshman year of HS cause at the time all my favorite teachers were still there (they all retired by the time I was a senior).

I also miss 2011, cause I have fond memories of playing SM64/MK Wii a lot, watching King of the Hill, and drawing a lot on Flipnote Studio. 2012 as a continuation was fun. basically my whole 7th grade year was great, it was my last year in homeschooling and I got to go visit my grandpa (who would spoil me) and then afterward was the one and only time I ever went to Chicago.

So I guess like 2011-2013 was really great though it had its bad moments. nothing has really been quite that memorable since and it seems now like every school year something bad happens to me physically/emotionally. hoping it gets better after I finished my undergraduate study.

I would go back to 2010 when I was 5, watching SpongeBob, and Tom and Jerry. Also playing Donkey Kong with my brother, it was so much fun.

I think I am ok with my present. I don't want to go back. It changes nothing and I don't see anything there I would enjoy as much nor more than my present. I think looking at the present and future are the best options even though I don't have any real dreams left.
