Started a new island on my second switch today. It took about a dozen resets to achieve what I wanted with the map: two south river exits, central residential services, apples or oranges, and a blue airport. Once I exited the airport I took one look at the villagers and thought, "nope!" But I resisted the urge to reset again.
Despite the impressive suggestion of Swoleville from Rod, the new island has been christened Kilika. I didn't put much thought into the name (Vylbrand's name was decided a good five or six months in advance) so here's hoping I don't wind-up hating it.
One of the founding residents of Kilika is Plucky: a chicken who reminds me of a babysitter who looked after me 5-10pm every Saturday and Sunday night for several years. She was a middle-aged heavyset woman with unnaturally bright ginger hair named Margaret. She would say "goodnight chicky-poo" and kiss you on the mouth. I'll be saying goodbye to her the first chance I get, no doubt. Or at least praying she will let me change her catchphrase.
The other starting villager was Rod: who is somehow growing on me in just a day. Once I saw him in daylight I realised he is actually a cutie. Maybe I have a weakness for jock villagers (Goose is my favourite villager on my other island). Maybe he just looks good next to Plucky. Regardless I'm happy to have him.
Day #2 and I am now a homeowner!
I did not miss this part of the game: where you need to wait days to be able to properly donate insects, fish, and fossils to the museum.
Blather's arrived in his little tent and I was excited to see it again. I think his tent is pretty cool and it's unfortunate that it vanishes so fast. That tank on the right reminds me of my first laboratory experience in university. I never figured out what the experiment was, but they kept ghost shrimp in there. I'd go and talk to them because I'm odd like that.
Rod, being the cool little dude he is, helped out with collecting items for the Nookling's shop. Plucky gave me a shovel. I was literally holding a shovel when she ran up to me like, "Hey, Chris, have this shovel!" No, Plucky. Read the room. Come on.
There were not enough iron nuggets on Kilika, so I went island-hopping. I forgot villagers could show up this early! I ran into Sherb. I have him on my other island, so I'm not sure why I invited him, but I couldn't just walk away. It's meant to be. I may let go of him on Vylbrand because as of yesterday I have two lazies (the other being Raddle).
On the second island I ran into Puddles! I'm having second thoughts over not inviting her. I have yet to build plots for villagers 3-5 (haven't even unlocked that ability yet) so there is no pressure to invite anyone quickly.
I managed to collect all of the resources for the shop and placed a plot. Here is Kilika's map now.
I'm about 40k from paying off my house loan. I might do that tonight. But I also received a bottle of wine in the mail from a friend today (they use TBT so: if you see this, thanks love x) so I may indulge in that instead. Tom Nook can wait.
During the morning announcements, Tom Nook got the fated call: three new residents want to move to Kilika! This is the part where I get nervous because I rushed this process on my other island not aware I could take my time with it. So I waited until the afternoon, because I had a garden dinner date lined up with a hot grill, and started island hopping for vilager number 4 (number 3 is Sherb) while sat in the sun enjoying a beer.

What is with Vylbrand's islanders wanting to follow me to Kilika? First Sherb and then Annabel. I passed on Annabel, but then ended up inviting another anteater: Annalisa! I actually bought her amiibo card recently, so I hesitated on her, but ultimately decided to invite her anyway. This means I can focus on getting one of the specific peppies I want tomorrow. Main reason for the delay is that I ran out of NMT and can't be bothered wracking up more miles right now, oops.
I also resumed my island hopping mission to find a peppy. I had a specific peppy in mind, so I waited until some of other staff members were awake and asked if someone could help me transfer some NMT and my trademark mohawk wig from my other island to this one. @LaBelleFleur kindly allowed me to do so! It took five tickets after doing that to get the peppy I wanted. I almost stopped at Flora or Cheri, but persevered!

With three villagers lined up to move to my island—Sherb, Annalisa, and Audie—it was time to finally place the plots and get the houses furnished. I'm expecting the first move in tomorrow.
