One of the last bugs I need in my encyclopedia is the tarantula. I know it's able to be caught this month, between 7 PM - 4 AM (peak time 11 PM - 4 AM). However, the problem is... I can't seem to find one, and I don't know if they can even spawn in my town at all.

I have a LOT of flowers and large pathways throughout my town. There are very few spots where the ground is bare, and those spots are small. My town is also under the Beautiful Town ordinance. From what I've read, tarantulas normally spawn in bare areas away from flowers.

I've checked behind buildings and in the barest areas of my town. Even my town hall and tree are almost completely surrounded by flowers, though.

So I have a few questions:

1. Is it possible my town CANNOT spawn tarantulas because of flower/tile placement?
2. Can they spawn in very small areas?
3. Does the Beautiful Town ordinance affect tarantula spawning?
4. Can you catch tarantulas when you visit other towns?

Please let me hear about your experiences with catching tarantulas. I'm so close to that golden net~! :)

1. I have a lot of flowers and paths and I have caught 3 tarantulas, so no.

2. Yes

3. Not that I know of

4. No

Thanks so much! I'll keep trying. Hopefully I can get one tonight. I almost fell asleep last night looking for one at 1 AM. :p

Ugh. I just remembered that it was raining in my town last time I was trying to catch one. Just read somewhere that it can't be raining. MY TOWN RAINS A TOOON.

I've found that the best time to find them is about 2-3 A.M. in the morning since there are fewer other bugs at that time, so if you are willing to time travel, that is probably your best bet. Also, if you look all over your town and can't find one, it is a good idea to go in a building or save and continue to reset the bug spawns.

I'm also having such a tough time with these guys. They keep spawning next to a cliff or the river and then just hurl themselves over the edge when I start moving. Apparently death is better than living with Blathers.

It's rough in there. The tarantula has to constantly fight with the scorpion 24/7. I'd probably kill myself too if I had to do that.

You can still get them with the Beautiful Town Ordinance enacted. I saw one in my town last night.

2. Can they spawn in very small areas? they can spawn anywhere
3. Does the Beautiful Town ordinance affect tarantula spawning? nope i have that ordinance in affect and they spawn
4. Can you catch tarantulas when you visit other towns? I dont think so because when you open the gates they stop spawning

It may take awhile just be patient you'll can one

It's harder to find them when you have a lot of flowers, tree, pathways and shrubs.
If you have room on the beach remove some to make an open space. In the open space I left a flower here and there for the bug to think it could hide.

Do you remember your spawning spots last year? The scorpion and tarantula spawn in the same spots as last year in two of my towns. Made it easier to find them.

Before I removed some flowers I updated the dream suite. Than when I was done my other town visited the DS so I could put the flowers in the right spot.

All my towns have beautiful and I had no problems finding both bugs. I've caught them just after 7pm.
One time it was wish on a star so I wished for a tarantula. Walked for 5 minutes and found one.

What I have heard from other people that has been helpful is to wear headphones. You can hear the crawling around before you would even see them. They are harder to catch in this game because if they run away, then tend to just disappear or run into a river.
walk around with your net ready in your pockets, and jsut keep and eye and ear out for them.
I caught one just a few days ago, now to catch a scorpion
