The Making of: Deadman's Gulp!
I was inspired by other restaurant and café builds I've seen on Twitter. For one, it's a good space filler and it would help create more narrative for my island. This spot was originally my outdoor café, but it didn't feel polished and more like a last minute idea. So I decided to recreate my own version and add a playable value to it.
My process begins in the Room Sketch app which is very handy to test some builds in. The biggest downfall is that I can't terraform or place fences down and now I have to visually imagine all of this. For now, this helps me with how many items I need, budget, and how much space I need for this building.
The front of the building is the more important as it's the eyecatcher. This is me trying to figure out how to decorate this establishment. I wanted it to be a bar where pirates, sea-weathered sailors, and hooligans flock to. Most of the restaurant builds on the internet are clean, delicate and cute. Instead, I wanted a general rough n' tumble look where not everyone can enter this bar.
And this is what the total madness looked like. Unfortunately, this wasn't even the final design because I finessed with it on my island over and over. It was my most expensive build to create and I definitely overfished the ocean for red snappers.
I take a lot of time to look up neat historical facts and I chose the word grog as the alcoholic beverage served at Deadman's Gulp. Grog is rum diluted with water or a citrus fruit.
I created a little interior for my bar too. You can see in the Room Sketch app, I didn't really include this or at least build it out and this was more on whim. I think this really adds to the structure and it's just a fun area to explore.
