Always start again
Key:
- = negative/weakness
+ = positive/strength
o = neutral
K.K. Slider in New Leaf:
o Indoor Venue
- You can only get one song from him per week
+ Underground club venue (I really like that this gives K.K. more of a rebel feel)
+ Concerts every night (I'm counting DJ K.K. as he is still cool enough to watch him for a few minutes even though you can't request actual songs)
o Remain sitting for songs
+ Always someone listening to K.K. with you (It's cool seeing Dr. Shrunk bust some moves especially when DJ K.K. is on the scene)
K.K. Slider in New Horizons:
o Outdoor venue (while not a big deal, it's cool seeing a different style of concert coming from my previous game being New Leaf. [Also, this does present some pros that were not present in New Leaf, like being able to pop a balloon should you hear one appear after a song])
+ With multiple characters, everyone except the first person to request a song can get up to two songs in a night
- Concerts back to only once per week (no more DJ K.K. sadly)
+ Concerts start an hour earlier and he shows up at the beginning of the day for public rehearsal (I'm not sure exactly how the public rehearsals worked for K.K. Slider in New Leaf. However, now that the concerts always go from 6PM-12AM instead of 7PM-12AM like in New Leaf, we get a whole nother hour of K.K. Slider live singing. [This extra hour is a very big deal to me as I am his number one fandespite what he says about my sister's character!])
- No more Dr. Shrunk in the crowd (This not only means that we will no longer be seeing his sick dance moves, but also there won't always be another character joining you for a song [unless of course you are doing partner play])
o Public access concerts (This is not that big of a deal to me that K.K. Slider lost his rebellious image in New Horizons. Honestly, I think he deserves a break after playing for all those underground concerts in New Leaf)
+ All characters stand instead of sit during every song (While this may not seem like a big deal at first, it does help relay a feeling that the in-game characters are more engaged in K.K.'s singing [it might even give you as the player the impression that you should be more engaged in the song as well]. Though, this does make me wonder why K.K. Slider has the characters sit in the first place.)
My final impression:
While New Leaf does bring a few unique features that New Horizons just can't stand up against (the biggest one for me probably being Dr. Shrunk), I feel New Horizons is still the clear winner in my opinion. To explain, being able to complete your collection a little bit more while attending his concerts at the same time does help keep me feeling energized enough to listen to even more songs. Also, seeing my playing character as being engaged in each and every song helps keep me motivated to listen in to the rest of the songs for the night (sure Dr. Shrunk's neat dance moves could be seen as inspiring this same level of engagement for the human player, but it does lack a certain personal connection).
Winner:
K.K. Slider from New Horizons!

Of course, the biggest strength for K.K. Slider in New Horizons is that as long as the player has the means to do so, he/she can watch the concerts on his/her television screen. However, since this positive has more to do with the capabilities of the Switch itself rather than the actual game, as well as the fact that those with a Switch Lite do not even have this luxury, I thought it would be rather unfair to include this point while comparing the two games.

(To explain, simply enter partner play and have one character request a song. After said song, K.K. Slider will mail everyone in the group a copy of that song. Afterwards, have the person who did not request a song enter solo play. That character will then request a different song. After that song, that character will be able to receive a physical copy of that song. This is a really cool feature, and I suggest you try it if you're trying to get more songs and you have multiple characters on your island. If anyone would like to add anything for other ways this method can be utilized, [perhaps to be more effective or to receive even more songs from K.K. each week], feel free to discuss them)
