So, wondering what to get for the Nintendo DS in the future? Look no further, for here, you can see the next killer apps for the DS... None of which you should miss out on.

;) These are in no particular order.

The New Super Mario Bros.

Impossible to hate, Mario's returning to his roots in The New Super Mario Bros. In an expansive singeplayer which spans over 10 worlds, covering 8 courses each, you won't be asking for more once this game is over. If you are indeed left wanting more, you can always turn to the competitive multiplayer mode, which should be a blast. If even that leaves you wanting more Mario goodness, why not try and give old minigames from Super Mario 64 DS in multiplayer mode a try, or perhaps some new added ones? Regardless of your cravings, The New Super Mario Bros. is sure to please.

Children of Mana DS

With absolutely stunning graphics and gameplay, this RPG is sure to entertain every RPG fan for days on end. The opening puts the one of Tales of Symponia to shame, even though it's on the DS, a system noticable underpowered when compared to the Gamecube. Even though Children of Mana DS isn't yet released in the United States, you can import it from http://www.play-asia.com for only $20 this weekend only. Not a deal you want to miss if you want (or need, in most RPG gamer cases) this game right now!

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Ah, finally, Zelda on the DS! A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker, Phantom Hourglass takes many gameplay ideas from its predescessor while succcesfuly adding new gameplay ideas, such as writing notes on the map, and using items with the Nintendo DS's touch screen. A specific release date was not given out, although the game is said to come out shortly before or after Twilight Princess, which should be sometime in November. Not adventures to miss, by any means, so be sure to grab both titles.

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day

Another title in Nintendo's Touch Generation line-up, Brain Age is one of the most succesful DS games in Japan, selling around 2 million units to date. A game that's not a game, the main goal is to recieve a good brain score, showing how functional your brain is, while improving your productivity in every-day problems. The best possible score is 20, and even though the exercizes appear to be easy, if many are thrown at you, they do not seem so. This is another game which you need to play a little a day to truly enjoy it, and no doubt another killer app for the DS. The release date in the US is April 16th.

There are many other games that will no doubt be just as good, but we currently have very little information about them, examples being another installment in the Ys series and Final Fantasy III, which is to be remade in 3D. I hope this thread helps.

:)

The graphics aren't that great and...Why is Nintendo using the same theme over and over. The reason link was a big hit was because it was different(like Earthbound)
I would rather see a game where you are zelda the eniter time through a game in her childhood before she meets link (If there isn't one) This doesn't seem like a good futre if you ask me.

I'm going to assume you are talking about Phantom Hourglass, so know that before you read what I am about to type.

Judging graphics based on a screenshots this early on in the production is simply crazy. The plots of the many Zelda games have been very similiar, but it wasn't because it was something new when it was originally released that made it so popular. EarthBound was a different game, but only in nature. The RPG had been around a lot longer than EB had. I'd also like to point out that EarthBound was not nearly as successful as Zelda, as you implied. I'm pretty sure that there was a Zelda game where you played as Zelda, it was called Zelda's Adventure or something like that for the Phillips CD-I, an unholy *CEN-5.01-SORD* child of a lawsuit between Phillips and Nintendo which let Phillips make Zelda games. Last I checked, Phillips lost over one billion dollars on the system.

And you didn't comment on the rest of the games, yet you said it didn't look like a good future, just to be disagreeable or because you really didn't like the games, but I'm willing to bet you will eventually.

I haven't liked the old Mario games and sense it is supposed to be some sort of remake I'll go with that.

Otherwise I agree with you. But Earthbound wasn't sucessful because only one of the series was released here on an old system. Hopefully poeple will know more about it with the release of Mother 3.

Wow, it's DEFINITELY a remake and called the NEW Super Mario Bros. Paradox... Hmm.

It's not a remake, it's an entirely new game like the old Super Mario Bros..

EarthBound wasn't successful because of poor advertising and just plain lack of interest, I believe.

It is Mario in the same kind of platform game, close enough to my standards.
You must have low standards.

By that logic, I guess we can all call dungeon hacks "Zelda remakes"

i dont see why everyone is up in arms waiting for Brain Training... sounds pretty boring in all honesty... not worth the money. >_>

but the New Super Mario Bros looks awsome, aswell as Zelda, but i've never been a huge fan of the Mana series, it was good on the SNES, but that was only the first one, Secret of Mana, the rest just seemed cheap compared to it...

i really hope they change the name for NEW Super Mario Bros... it just doesn't sound right being called that, i dunno what'd be better, but practically anything would beat that. >_>

Zelda, i dunno enough yet, it looks nice though. : )

To you my standards may be low, but they are mine none the less so drop it.

hmm...that was actually USEFUL......Im no Zelda fan...I do enough work in school...would the mana game even be in English?.......and Ohhh NEW Super Mario Bros........*cha CHING* Thank you for purchasing that game sir.

About the Brain Age, I'm totaly getting it. Phantom thing, no ways, I've never been into zelda games and the graphics on the screenshots look sucky. New Mario Bros, I'm in the middle about it...

Perhaps because you've never PLAYED a Zelda game. Zelda is one of Nintendo's best franchises, it is impossible not to play it. And since when have graphics been a deciding factor in your purchasing of games?

Yeah, I guess you're more of a casual gamer, right? And no offense, since no possible offense can be taken from that comment,

@ Fish - Brain Age is $20, budget-priced...

My only beef with this is that you just listed the games I really want but I do not have enough money for

:(

Justin, sucky is not a word

;)

Bul, i've considered getting the Wind Wacker Game at one time. Since you keep saying it's so great.

Get all the good Zelda games.

:'(

Minish Cap
Windwaker
Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time
A Link to the Past
Four Swords Adventures GCN

In no order, and I forgot others.

The future of the DS right now looks very bright. With good games like these, Nintendo is bringing in both it's veterans with New. Super Mario Bros. and appealing to new people with Brain Age, which could really appeal to everyone. I believe Nintendo is really focusing on the DS and it's capabilities with these games, and pushing the limit to the max, with bringing everyone's Nintendo favorites to the DS (Mario, Zelda) as well as throwing in a few new things (Brain Age, Mana).
