The Looking Glass Photo Booth

It'll soon be the end of another decade! How crazy is that?! Maybe we should get out our cameras and take some photos of the memories we want to bring with us into the '20s... or maybe we should leave them well alone and take some photos of things that inspire us moving forward? You decide!

How to Participate

Take a photo of either:

  1. Something that you want to remember from the previous decade (2010-2019), or
  2. Something that inspires you for the upcoming decade.
Post your picture in this thread, along with a short caption that corresponds with the photo prompt you picked:

  1. Why do you want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s?
  2. Why does this picture inspire you for the '20s?

Submissions close Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Rules

  • One entry per person!
  • The photograph submitted must be one that you have taken for the event.
  • Your entry must include a physical name card with your TBT username written on it. Digitally adding your name to the photograph doesn't count.
  • Entries need to be in line with the Bell Tree's Rules & Guidelines.
  • Since this isn't a contest, photo editing is allowed. However, please don't edit it to the point that I don't know what I'm looking at.
  • For the love of balloons, please do not print out your favourite meme and take a picture of it. They have been immortalized far and wide on the internet. They don't need to be remembered here too.
As there has been an influx of new accounts being made during this event, we want to remind everyone that alternate accounts are not allowed on the forum and only one account may be used per person. Further, and more importantly for some, accounts used solely to benefit another account will be treated the same as an alternate account. This means that if a sibling, friend, etc. joined the forum and plans to send all of their currency and/or collectibles to you, it'll be treated and handled the same as if it was another account made by you. Thank you for your understanding.

Prizes

Each accepted entry will receive 1 Balloon Token and 20 Mementos.

From the previous decade I'd like to remember the coloring page I made for the 2017 Fair:

20191228-173603.jpg

The reason is because not only does it make me super happy every time I look at it, but it was the first entry I made in a contest on this forum that I actually won. Over two years later and I'm still proud of it. It reminds me to always put my best effort into whatever I do, and soon my efforts will be recognized and rewarded :)

Edit: my username is written on the bottom of the coloring page!

Why do I want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s?

My beloved cat will be 15 on April 25th 2020. I hate saying this, but she will pass sometime in the 20's. This will break my heart, and I want to remember how lively, beautiful, loving, and clever she is. This is the way she has always been, and the way I will always remember her.

Why does this picture inspire me for the '20s?

This picture inspires me to be a better human, because she's such an amazing animal.

This year memory for me would be this years scavenger hunt!
Random submission for the event

Reason 1: Well, I haven't really gone out shopping this year. This event made me go shopping/scavenge and i found a Christmas present for my friend (which wasnt this, it was a minecraft sticker book)

Reason 2: This made me think, there are many treasures i may like when i go outside shopping. I may buy it or not buy it. Like this snow globe, i really liked it but it was very expensive, so i didn't buy it. A picture is good enough. I may go out to go thrifting soon next year. I also hate shopping and i really hate going outside. maybe this photo will make me want to go outside more.

Not sure if this counts, but my favorite moment of the decade was getting the Nintendo Switch. I spent so many hours on some of the best games I played. Botw, Odyssey, Smash Ultimate, MK8D, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, Three houses and Mario Maker 2 to name a few of the amazing experiences I had in the decade. It makes me more excited for the next animal crossing game which is so close. I can't wait for what's instore the next few years.

My new drawing tablet inspires me to see the world through a new lens. Not just seeing the world for what it is, but also for all the beauty that can be found within. The picture above is a reminder of the vow I made to become a better artist. To constantly be learn and practicing new things instead of just sitting around waiting for the next best thing. While I might not be good now, I definitely see myself improving in the future :) That's why I choose this picture of my tablet to be an inspiration not just for me but to all aspiring artist on TBT.

I thought about this for awhile and decided I didn’t want anything too personal as my photo, but well, it kind of had to be this xD. The reason I want to remember this in the ‘20s is simple. I put a lot of effort, sweat, and tears into obtaining this belt in Karate, and even though I don’t do Karate anymore I still do Aikido. The main message I want to send to myself in the ‘20s is that no matter what you do in life, always stay committed and never give up. “Extraordinary dreams can only come true through extraordinary efforts.” :)

For half the decade Isabelle greeted me every day and brighten up my day. At first I didn't intend to play that game, I didn't even own a 3DS, some relative lent it to me when I asked for a relaxing fishing game, then later someone gave me their broken 3DS that I repaired for $5, then I joined the forum, had fun, won acnl cards and got some others from a friend here. Well I had a lot of fun for several years in the game or here on the forum thanks to Animal Crossing.

Sometimes everything works like the button soup, the most difficult part is to have a wish, a goal, but once your mind is set on something, with some effort and little help from friends, your wish can became reality.

1. Why do you want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s?

I want to remember this picture because 2019 was the first year of my marching band career. It was an amazing year, and I was happy with the results of our competitions we went to.

2. Why does this picture inspire you for the '20s?

This picture inspires me for the '20s to try my hardest in my future marching band career. I want to be the best out of my section, and one day I want to have a solo. I also want to be an amazing mentor to teach the newbies how to march, like a Saxophonist named Christopher taught me.

My photo is of my grandfather's watch. My grandfather was a huge part of my son's and my life.
He passed away suddenly in July of 2017. I miss him every day.
I want to keep all my memories of my grandfather - happy & sad -
with me in the next decade and the decades to follow.

Behind my grandfather's watch is a picture of our rats, Justin & Nicodemus. We had adopted them just 2 months before my grandfather passed. Having them helped me through losing my grandfather. Knowing they needed me to help take care of them helped me get out of bed on bad days. Sadly, they both passed away earlier this year. I didn't think a picture of a picture would count for my entry but I wanted to include them because I want to bring my memories of my rat boys into the new decade and beyond as well.

Something that inspires me for the upcoming decade:

This is both a memory and an inspiration for me! I bought these pens on a family trip to Japan in 2016 and they have been the best tool for me in both my personal and professional life! They have gotten me through so, so many difficult courses at university, seen so many handmade birthday cards, and been through tons of musicals. In the next decade, I hope to finish my studies and continue working in musical theatre and I definitely plan to bring these pens along for the ride! They are a reminder of my favourite place in the world and a tool that reminds me to always do my best. Also, fun colours make everything better! Reckless optimism always!

This is a picture of my figurine of Wilson from Don't Starve. I chose this because Don't Starve has inspired me to write more than anything has inspired me to write before in my life, and that all happened in the last decade. It's hard to put into words how important this is to me, which might be ironic, since I'm a writer. ^o^;>

i want to remember the contents of this photo as these are 2 mini lego statues i have recently made to act in place of the future dogs me and my boyfriend wish to adopt in the future. I want to remember their starting point and look back on them as i hopefully adopt one or both of these dogs later in the new decade. This picture inspires me to do my best in the decade, as we have intended to adopt both of these dogs from a shelter, and it will inspire me to do my very best to insure i give 2 dogs the life they deserve.

The most significant thing event of the 2010s for me was joining the youth choir where I met the most important and influential person in my life. I was an anxious kid who was always too eager to please and be perfect (so basically nothing has changed) and he gave me endless reassurance and encouragement. This was what ultimately pushed me to pursue studies/a career in the music world, but it did so much more than that. At the times in my life when I felt the lowest and felt like I had nobody on my side, remembering the things he told me is what pushed me to go on. The kindness he showed me is also what continues to inspire me to be kind to others. The photo above is of a hat that he gave me (the context is complicated lol), needless to say it is a direct reminder of him which inspires me to continue to be my best self & believe in myself.

Why do you want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s?

I would like to remember my Harry Potter book set in the '20's because they got me through some though times and helped me escape reality, even if it was only for a little bit each day. I got them in 2013, and I loved the art and style. I want to remember them so I can know that if I am ever in a situation where I need a bit of comfort, books will always be there (A bit nerdy, I know). I will hopefully read them more in the future, but I would like to remember them now. (I don't know why the photo is rotated, I can't fix it and thats a real bummer.)

Why do you want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s? Because I want to always remember my two beloved cats who inspire me to be a better person by teaching me compassion and making me laugh over all of the antics they do.

Why do you want to remember the contents of this picture in the '20s?

where I'm from this thing didn't come cheap. think it was over $1k when it came out and I was still a poor student so I couldn't very well afford it (not the type to ask my parents for games too, had always managed my monthly allowance just so I would have enough to buy games like the sims expansion packs and stuff since I was 11) when I got married in 2015, I was finally able to buy the 3ds using my dowry (in my culture the bride receives dowry from the groom)!

it was one of the happiest moments in my life! I met so many wonderful people in real life through local 3ds gatherings and they're still my best friends to this day. also I was finally able to play animal crossing new leaf which of course led me to tbt and here I am! I met my soulmate and forever bestie Dae Min here. not to forget my small circle of friends whom I love from the bottom of my heart (King Scotty, mogyay, Sheila). I love you guys to bits thank you for being my friends!

next year will mark a new chapter for me because I'll finally be buying the switch and saying goodbye to the 3ds (jk I'll still play it) thank you so much for all the fun we've had, my lovely little pink friend!!

I never want to forget the first time we ever put a new Christmas tree up in my new home...
It's finally feeling like my place is mine, and that's why I hope to always remember it.
I'm looking forward to making so many new and lovely memories here.

Why does this picture inspire you for the '20s?

This last decade was the time I was ready enough to get a puppy and care for her.
Its a big milestone in my life and really teaches so much about being responsible for another living being.

she's kind of like a child to me and definitely seen as family. She inspires me to work harder in life for the ones close to me and also signifies how I really should be starting to save and work towards my future family and home.

Here's a real derpy photo of Chiwa :)
