Out of work due to this pandemic thing you might have heard of, so a lot of time throughout the day to jump into ACNH and do some stuff.

I suppose any AC game would be fine for lockdown, but the new features of ACNH make it especially well suited:

  • The Nook Miles+ challenges provide a constant stream of small tasks so you can use AC to fill a quick 15 mins so much more easily than in past games. Sometimes with NL it felt like once you'd done your daily chores there was nothing left to do until tomorrow. Not anymore.
  • Knowing that I'll be able to move everyone's houses and the public buildings at a later date means I can throw things down stress-free - it's fine that everyone is living on top of one another and the layout is a mess... a month or two from now when I've unlocked everything and have all the money in the world is when I can start really sweating the layout details.
  • The crafting system provides those lizard-brain mini-hits of "I achieved something!" to the flow of the game. It is, I suppose, added busy-work over previous titles, but it's busy-work that I find enhances the gameplay rather than detracts. Which is saying something as I'm completely over crafting systems in other games.

While I would much prefer there wasn't a horrible virus making my days empty, I'm really glad this game came out right as the UK went into "shut it down!" mode. I can't even go to the gym right now to de-stress, as they're all closed, so deserted island escape has been a godsend.

I feel the same way really. The entire vibe is so different now, it makes this game all the more relevant when it comes to escapism. I hope as people that we learn something from this (but I doubt we will).

Yeah, NH seems to have a lot more features and things to focus on to take up time. I'm really glad for it now, especially since where I live may be going into a stay-at-home lockdown soon. NH will easily fill my time and that void of not being at work.
