Petrichor - the earthy smell that is produced specifically when rain hits dry soil, releasing plant oils and geosmin, which is apparently a byproduct of the bacteria actinomyces
What is your opinion of this smell? Like it or love it? Or didn’t notice it before? Or do we hate going out in the rain and getting wet?
I love the smell before and after a storm.
I don't mind getting wet from the rain as long as I'm not soaked and having to stay in those clothes. I really don't like the bottoms of my pants getting wet though. That bothers me a lot but that only happens if I can't find capris in the store to use as pants. I had more luck with that lately so no worries here.
It's the affect of some type of bacteria rising out of the dirt from what I remember reading long time ago. Just read the first post and that was already mentioned lol.
It's a very pleasant smell. It's a very fresh smell.
I grew up somewhere where it rained a lot, so the smell is nostalgic and familiar to me. I’m bummed I rarely smell it now since I live in a much dryer climate.
