The water

The water looks gorgeous! But just think about how it will look in 9 months from now- even better~

One thing I've wondered though. With such a cartoonish look on sea water, and a somewhat realistic looking river water, what will the connection between both will look like? That's a bag of hurt for the development team, and I'm curious how this will have solved that problem.

People were complaining about it? I thought it looked beautiful with the rippling effects during rain, the shininess on sunny days, and very tiny waves if you look closely. Compared to older games, they look static with only textures moving along the water.

The water is looking beautiful. I love how it reflects and, noticeable during the Treehouse gameplay, will sparkle from a distance.

With that said though, I do kind of feel the river water looks a tad better than the ocean water at the moment.

I thought it looked amazing and it matches the style of the game perfectly too.

They might change it slightly once the full game is released. I think it looks fine however.

I just watched the trailer again and I think the water looks fine! The water ripples and shining sunlight parts to it made it look much better than previous games. More realistic. I'm not sure why people are complaining.

The water looks amazing in this game. Especially the winter, with the snowfall and everything. It looks
much better than in the pervious AC games, just my opinion to this.

I would've never guessed that the rivers would be the thing people complain about. Looks stunning imo.

Water was always the week point in terms of graphics for the Animal Crossing series. I remember being quite disapointed with it in New Leaf. This around, though, it's another story. The only thing that could be adjusted are the river's banks. They are block and quite unrealistic. Why can't they be smoothed out?

I think the water in the river looks nice but the ocean water is nothing special. That could use some work.

People are probably just unhappy with the inconsistencies of the different water effects. The lakes and rivers look much different to the ocean, however this could just be due to it being in early development.

where are these swathes of people complaining about the water effects? i honestly haven't seen many people say negative things about the water in particular but i have noticed a lot of folks say the game looks "flat" or that they're not a fan of the new textures.

honestly i think it's just because release day is so far. usually nintendo doesn't do as much optimizing or "cleaning up" of the graphics until much closer to their first party games actual releases.

in my opinion the water has never looked better. especially in the rain. you can see individual droplets affecting the water's surface in the trailer. even in the water-holding items like the bucket and barrel they were affected by the environment. that level of detail is unprecedented in animal crossing. however people feel they have a right to feeling that way and i'm pretty confident we'll see the game improve a lot in upcoming directs or features or whatever nintendo decides to show us.
