The Maersk Dubai incident involved four Romanian stowaways aboard the Taiwanese container ship MV Maersk Dubai. On two consecutive voyages, in March and May of 1996, three of the men were murdered when they were thrown overboard by the ship's captain and five of his officers. A fourth was spared the same fate when he was kept hidden by four crew members until they reached their next destination of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

What a cheerful article to start off the day.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charcoal_in_food

Charcoal is used in food to colour it black and for its supposed health benefits.

Activated charcoal is used as a food ingredient. This is typically made from bamboo or coconut shell. It gives food an earthy, smoky taste and the black colouring gives the food an exotic, fashionable appearance.

Health benefits have been claimed for charcoal back to classical times, when Hippocrates and Pliny recommended it for conditions such as anthrax and vertigo. Activated charcoal adsorbs chemicals and so may bind to both toxins and vital nutrients such as vitamins. Its effects are therefore broad and indiscriminate.

Chefs and food retailers that have pioneered the use of charcoal in food include Ferran Adri?, Burger King, Ren? Redzepi, Simon Rogan and Waitrose.

I had no idea this was even a thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effective_demand

In economics, effective demand (ED) in a market is the demand for a product or service which occurs when purchasers are constrained in a different market. It contrasts with notional demand, which is the demand that occurs when purchasers are not constrained in any other market. In the aggregated market for goods in general, demand, notional or effective, is referred to as aggregate demand. The concept of effective supply parallels the concept of effective demand. The concept of effective demand or supply becomes relevant when markets do not continuously maintain equilibrium prices.

There are so many Wikipedia articles where it seems like the only reason anyone would ever read them is because they happened to click random article. Still interesting how they've managed to catalogue such a large amount of information.
