YES! It's a nice big journey to read something while it's still being released or to watch a show while it's being aired because you can fangirl and imagine what'll happen next. oh, and discuss and then all the hype! No, you're not weird at all. It's so much better than binging on completed stuff imo.

Yeah, I make sure that they have a few chapters up, at least, and that they updated recently before I start reading. It usually helps when you do that while choosing a book.
