So, I had enough space to fit an introduction, a very old entry and a conclusion. Not bad at all. Also, I have a few more entries with older entries to post, but the last one will be posted later tonight. The entries from below will be mostly talking about Earthbound and Tails Adventure. Until then, enjoy reading them!

January 6th 2014

Yesterday had me playing some Earthbound. I didn't mentioned that because it's not really a part of the week, but I thought that wasn't enough. Speaking about progression, I went from Belch's Factory to the Gold Mine. I heard that the dungeon is one of the hardest of the game, so I believe I'd better prepare my inventory and stats. I'd probably need to do some grinding to level up my characters, and reorganize my inventory. Oh, and also...

Today, I decided to play another game instead of Ristar due to one problem. There's the infamous snowstorm took place while the temperature is oscillating around the melting point. That could disrupt my Wii U's power current if the storm was dangerous enough to cause a power outage. Being a Wii VC game, Ristar doesn't have any save feature whatsoever. If I had to return where I left off, I would have to use a cheat code to select the level. Same goes for the Wii's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which at least has a save feature (with ye olde sahve pwhaynths). But that doesn't make it any less frustrating if the power source temporairly goes kaput in a middle of gaming session. I just don't want to take the risk of having to redo the same parts. Fortunately, I happen to own a few portable consoles. And 3DS is among them. I decided to switch Ristar to be the tomorrow's game, in favour of Tails Adventure.

In that game, I believe I was halfway done through its completion. I purchased that game off from eShop since last summer, and I now fully beaten the game in its entirety, which involves collecting every single item. Even a few of the useless ones due of the game's level design that includes so many leaps of faith and fearing a trap might be just around the corner at every 2 screens or so. Also, why we only get the Teleport Device near the last level of the game? It could've been very helpful if we have it near the beginning of the game, considering the Metroidvania-esque formula of the game that asks for some backtracking to Tails's House. Thanks goodness the levels aren't too long to navigate anyway, and some levels provide shortcut to the entrance.

If there's one thing that future developers should take note of, it would be the abuse of the cramped areas. Small resolution or not, the levels shouldn't be too cramped even if there are leaps of faith. How about throwing bombs to eliminate enemies in a very cramped place? Urrggghhhh... My bombs often tend to miss enemies because they move in an arch-like angle and hit the wall or the ceilling. That's where many of my frustrating moments came in, and one of them even managed to make me slam the top screen quite hard. True story. Overall, Tails Adventure is an interesting take on a Tails-starred game, deserving a sequel on its own on a better platform. The gameplay works quite well for a Game Gear title, as it deal with the original system's limited resolution in an efficient way. At a low price of around $4 on eShop, it's worth trying it out if you have patience and like the Metroidvania aspects.

Speaking about my launch North American 3DS XL, its right speaker is now half-busted, therefore producing crackling sounds when certain soundfonts are used. Nintendo eShop banner sound almost seemed like to be a flatulence noise. Looks like the speaker aren't made of Nintendium after all. Also, the same system has a cracked hinge near the Notification LED for no apparent reason since Fall 2013. I wonder if it's worth spending around $75 to have my 3DS XL replaced from Nintendo Repair Center, or if I should keep going on anyway.
My Wii U has a SD Card stuck forever inside its own slot and its warranty is already void. Regardless on how hard I try to attempt pulling the card out, my efforts were in vain. So, there's that to fix, but it's not urgent.
If I contact NOA and send those two systems, I won't be able to play these systems for at least two weeks. However, I do own other gaming consoles with games I haven't beaten yet and my Japanese 3DS as well. So, I'm not completely disadvantaged. But still, I'll see what I can and if I really should to do all of that.

What a way to start the week! Next game of the day will be Ristar although it was supposed to be played on Monday, thanks to the shaky weather that could provoke a power outage. That game is a true hidden gem of Sega Genesis that could be just as popular as Sonic the Hedgehog. Until then, see you next time!
