So my town is actually pretty advanced. It's my first town, I've been playing it for almost a year now. I just finished my fossil collection, I have a fully upgraded T&T Emporium, Main Street is complete except for Katrina's, and I'm only missing 10 fish/bugs collectively. However I really hate my town's layout and want to restart it from scratch.

I'm just worried because I have a lot of rare/RV items that I've collected from raids that I will permanently lose if I restart. I'm also apprehensive about losing all of my progress in terms of Main Street, the museum, etc.

Have any of you guys restarted a town after progressing very far into the game? What have you done to make up for everything you've lost?

I have never restarted myself. What you may do to cut back on some progress loss is leaving your items with someone else while you restart and selling your town.

I know some people on the forums provided a moving service that allowed you to stash any items you wanted saved when restarting a town. Do you have any trustworthy friends that play ACNL?

my sd card messed up a few years ago and i lost my original town of 2-3 years.

i was bummed out for a few minutes, but afterwards i felt free because i'd always hated my map layout. now my town is more beautiful than ever and i couldn't be happier.

with a planned reset though you could actually store your items elsewhere. i'm sure there are plenty of forum members who could help (i'd volunteer myself, but i haven't had much free time lately)

If you do plan to reset, my town has a ton of space. I'd happily let you drop your stuff off until you find a better town.

Trust me, I reset due to hating my layout, and my new town was nearly perfect. Poshley has apples, which I really wanted, a matching train station and town hall, and a great layout when it comes to river placement, etc. The decision is still up to you, but I recommend it.

If you want to reset then just do it. I've done it so many times omg. if progression and items are your concern I have just started a new town myself which has plenty of room if you wanted me to hold some of it while you reset ^^

I've restated my oldest town of New Town years after the game out. Like, 5 years maybe. I completed the museum, had most of my dreamies, expanded alot of the residents houses, among other things. I had to go throu multiple themes to realize that themeing a town that was never intended to have a theme is annoyingly hard. I tried to work with what I had, but what I had isn't what I wanted.

So I transfered alot of stuff and my most desirable dreamies to my other towns and restart. I dont regret it. Ever. Secret is pretty awesome, I love the theme, the colors, the dream villagers, ect... Even the name is better then New Town. I had alot of freedom with Secret to do what I want, and I'm happy with how it came out so far.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I may hit some of you up to transfer items if I decide to restart. But I was doing some research and realized I could hack into my town using Homebrew/the Save Editor and change the layout to one I liked. I know it wasn't my initial question but would anyone recommend that instead of restarting my town?

I mean you could, but do you have any experience with that kind of stuff? Sure it looks cool but it is still possible to corrupt your game like that. While you can have a backup save, the process itself of hacking the game isn't as easy as people who dont hack might perceive it. It's still a time consuming process. If I were able to hack, I'd still landscape in game rather then use a Save Editor because to me it seems easier. Plus, you definitely will not find any guides or help about that from this site.

TBT does not condone hacking, but if you attempt to, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. I've had a system brick itself whenever I tried to hack Filly/Holden into my town.

Oof okay, point taken. I think I might just reset my town. One last question: how do I know if I can sell my town (so that I don't lose absolutely everything and can still keep my catalogue/PWPs)?

I've restarted a fully developed town and had no regrets, even though it was my very first town. It was after the Welcome Amiibo update and I felt like I wanted to experience starting over again with all the new stuff the update brought. I got really into town planning after the update thanks to the villagers not plotting over patterns anymore. I made sure to settle with a map I knew I'd love (the first time I just picked any of the first four). It also helped that I was able to keep my catalogue and PWPs after selling the town. Definitely go for it if the pros outweigh the cons. You can always get villagers and unorderable items back. There are still a few active members on the forums who sell them here. Good luck with whatever you chose!

The welcome amiibo items are not very hard to obtain here in the trading forums. There?s also a lot of giveaways. If that?s the only reason that?s keeping you from restarted I would say go for it :)
I restarted mine and I?m sooo happy.
