Thoughts about not letting villagers change their furniture and stuff

I think its kinda pointless to do that, but this is coming from someone who just dumps her trashy items on her villagers via letters to get fruit. But it helps make sure you can give the villagers for more whenever they move out. I love to give my villagers the worst catchphrases and greetings (for example, Klaus' greeting is "o-oh senpai," and his catchphrase is "*blushes*" and Peck's greeting is "oh god." and his catchphrase is "#turnt")

But I suppose some houses look better inside than others, so it comes downt o the villager and the person who playing with their tastes and such.
(sorry if it made no sense, i'm tired.)

Yeah, it was worst in WW in my opinion. Instead of changing furniture, they would get rid of furniture until all there's left is an End Table and a radio.

I played a long time and gave my villagers anything they wanted. Then I noticed their houses looked pretty terrible, so I've been working on trying to restore their homes. It's fun too - sort of a puzzle to figure out how to get things where you want them. Before, I never bothered to make and keep appointments to visit their homes (because I knew I'd forget), but now it's very exciting to get an invitation because I know that I'll get to move something. I think there's enough to do in the game that different people can focus on different things without the game being ruined at all. Part of it's popularity, I'm sure:)

I will let my villagers change furniture if I think it compliments them or their home. I have no desire to keep them as they are, since they are bound to change something at some point, it would be somewhat stressful, and the changes aren't always bad. If a villager asks for something I know just won't work for them, or me, I just don't give it to them. Otherwise, I go with the flow :)

I try to control their furniture for a few different reasons. One of them is that it gets out of control really easily, so some villagers can end up having their rooms wrecked. Other times, it's because there are villagers I don't plan on keeping in my town forever and keeping them original makes it easier to get people to adopt them.

I change their furniture myself, since I like to send some of my villagers items that I think match their house or redecorating their houses. Sometimes when they ask me for bugs and fish, I think it's really cute because it fits their personality, so I give it to them. I only do this for the ones I know I'll keep, though.

This hasn't made the game less fun for me. I still catch bugs and fish to sell and to donate to the museum. Even if I didn't, there are plenty of things that are so much fun to do. It hasn't made my villagers' dialogues less boring. I just tell them I'll catch the bug or fish they're requesting instead of denying their request immediately, so maybe that has something to do with it. I still get different dialogues and high friendship levels with them.

I used to give my villagers everything they wanted.. every bug, every fish, any item in my pocket. But their houses looked worse and worse and they would place items so that half the interior was blocked off. They would take an ugly shirt and wear it and lo and behold every villager would be wearing it. I got my gold medals and I put my foot down. I don't give them fish and bugs anymore and I only give them items in my pocket if I feel like it.

I am a bit conflicted with this. Partly I want to fufill their requests to help us become better friends and make them happy, but I don't want their homes to be full of bugs and fish either. At the same time, I don't ever plan on selling my villagers, so there's no financial value or point in me trying to keep their homes original. Changing things up sometimes helps to make that villager's home unique to your town.

While I like the idea of keeping my favorite villager's homes original, I'm much more interested in building friendships with them (and eventually getting their pictures to keep in my basement, where all precious things are kept) so, I answered their requests with reckless abandon.

I'm toying with the idea of giving some of my favorite villagers nicer stuff that suits them though, so their homes will be different but not quite as fugly (I hope). I want to deck Kabuki's place out with red/black exotic stuff because his place looks like a trash heap.

I try not to worry too much about my neighbours' homes or their clothes. If they want to buy a really random piece of furniture from Re-tail, then so be it. If Aurora wants to wear a fishing vest for six months and Kidd wants to wear a lovely shirt, then that's their business. I don't want to be a dictator. XD

It's not just when you sell villagers that it can be a problem. I've never sold any of mine but I still try to keep their houses intact, because even people who adopt villagers for free sometimes prefer original villagers. I've noticed this even more in the case of villagers whose main appeal is the way their house is decorated.

I try to give furniture that compliments their house. Sometimes I even redecorate their house if I feel like their original house doesn't suite them. I didn't like Paula's Patchwork furniture for example, so I gave her refurbished Alpine furniture and it looks great in her house. :)

I give what they want, and then if they give me something from their house before, I mail it off to them the same day. It's either that or I go to ReTail and give them custom furniture to pretty up their home :)

If I don't have a current use for an item, I give it to them. I usually don't do fish or bugs, just 'cause I'm lazy. I might give Zucker a few since his place is a Sushi Resturaunt thingy.

i'm usually happy to give a villager a new piece of furniture if they ask. if i'm really feeling it, i'll nab them something from gracie. like rolf has the sweets chair and gorgeous bed, and bangle has the sweets couch. but if they make it too complicated by not saying what size they want, but always turning down things i offer them, i usually just forget about it. mostly because a year ago i bought nate the freaking moon because it was the only thing i could find to satisfy his needs. and if i feel like a villager's house is a little on the empty side, i'll send them something.(like i gave rolf the bed because he was emptying the heck out of his room)
i try not to give them fish or bugs and definitely not fossils because everyone will just get rid of their furniture to make room for the wildlife. like rolf just has a bagworm. and he has a couch facing toward it. rolf just sits on his kiddie couch and watches his bagworm not move all day.
but yeah, unless i plan on selling a villager, i don't try very hard to keep them original. it can be fun to get them nice furniture and see what they do with it.

It depends. I usually let them change stuff but I no longer tolerate fossil pieces in their houses because they are the worst and impossible to remove. I now let them ask for stuff and I give them stuff that suits their theme or what I see fits them. It can be fun to give Marshal, for example, minimalist furniture when he gets rid of his sloppy stuff. I think the white looks great in his house. I am having some fun with visiting them, buying weird stuff and trying to see if I can give them something they will like, that fits them, and that will look cool. :)

For me it kinda depends on some things. I had Bangle since the beginning of my game and her house was pure chaos so I mailed her a bunch of classic furniture because I thought it would look good and it was much easier than trying to restore her original furniture (it worked rather well, still had to buy a few individual items in order to replace them but it did look good).
For Bruce I replaced a lot of his stuff with high-tech stuff because his color scheme, grumpy demeanor, and name made me think of Batman.
If I have a villager that I have no intention of keeping and only have them because a good campsite villager is preferable to random move-ins then I won't mess with their furniture because I plan to move them out the moment they ask and don't need to worry about building their friendship.

I did have to get rid of the duck shirt. It was already starting to drive me crazy, and then it started appearing in my second town. I just sort of snapped. I filled Nooks with umbrellas and loaded up on shirts and stationery to drive that duck out of town. Now everyone is wearing a pleather vest. When I see a group of my villagers talking, I start looking for where they've parked their motorcycles. I think I'm sending a bunch of shirts in the mail again soon.
