Thoughts on house upgrades?

Ah I see, so its randomized slightly so someone could have all rooms slightly smaller if they're really unlucky?

No, all rooms are the same size for all players, its just the order the rooms are unlocked are in a predetermined order.

1. House built
2. Room size increase
3. Back room
4. Left room
5. Right room
6. Upstairs room
7. Basement room

3-7 cannot have their size increased.

I was a bit bummed out about the lack of room size choice at first (since HHD introduced quite a few interesting ones when building and/or remodeling buildings; you could make someone a small closet room and there were actual doors inside that you could interact with), but I started growing fond of the change after I realized that it means all the rooms in your house will no longer feel the same like in older games.

Of course, I wouldn't mind if Nintendo eventually did add that feature into NH at some point. Here's hoping they also bring new (and old) house customization options that aren't in the game.

I actually prefer it this way. Like someone else said, it's more cosy and I like how it puts more emphasis on island development.

Like seriously, how can you guys can complain about space of you've literally got an entire ISLAND to decorate? LOL

Past game had bigger rooms, so It's totally reasonable that people complain about this. No reason not to make them bigger or at least give people the option to decide between small or big.

You should really, really have the choice to either increase the size of a room or get an additional room when you do an upgrade. In NL with only a few of the upgrades happening in a set order there was SO much creativity and if someone said "yeah well I want my house to feel cozy and small and I don't think I need a really big one" they could pretty much do that, while if they said "I wanna decorate my town while also having a whole huge mansion to decorate too" they could do that. I wouldn't mind the room sizes if I just had a choice in whether I want this size or a bigger one, and I was really annoyed when I found out that only my main room could be made bigger. I wanted to make my bedroom bigger and maybe somebody else thinks the size is fine, but what it comes down to is having that choice be there if you want it--if you don't, you can ignore it and there's zero downside. What I'm hoping for is that maybe they'll add the ability to increase room sizes in an update and the reason it's this way right now is because they're expecting the average non-TTing player to not have as much money for upgrades.

Yeah I hate that not only is the maximum size smaller, it's also so limited. NL was flexible. You could CHOOSE which rooms to build and which rooms to upgrade. It wasn't forced on you to build the room to the left before the room to the right. So all the people saying that it's more cozy in NH, like you could choose to have a cozy house in NL! I saw some really creative uses of different sized rooms in dreamsuites. Now I'm forced to have the maximum sized house if I want to unlock all the exterior options....

It's definitely different but I'm sure I can work around it. I love that the second story and basement are longer vertically. That's pretty cool to me.

Especially because I don't build the normal home, I build environments. So my living room is an oasis tea room (or something like that) and currently upstairs became the kitchen desert.

Sidenote, I love the animated wallpapers and floors.

i'm honestly really disappointed with the fact you can't upgrade your size rooms. the upstairs, downstairs and front room are nice and spacey, but the side rooms stay small and i don't like that. it doesn't feel like i have the same freedom to decorate as i did in new leaf.

I'm mainly annoyed I cant pick the order of the rooms. I have a back room I dont know what to do with because I wanted a left room. I'm annoyed storage is tied into it. I like feeling like the upgrade actually got me something (whole room vs just one or two spaces all the way around) and I think that's 100% for younger players benifit tbh.
Im trying to picture my little sister actually bothering or finding it fun if a upgrade was the way it used to be. She wouldn't.
I'd like the option to make rooms bigger. And pick the order. Only reason I dont care right now is there's no furniture I care about using inside. I hate the block set. The iron wood set I dont have the recipes for... Eh. I was disappointed when I found out but it is what it is.
