Thoughts on repeated events?

I'm not playing Bunny Day again this year but I am collecting Easter eggs because my friend and I designed a small mini-game for some friends. Luckily, he doesn't care so much with the design of his island, so he'll gladly wreck it to create some silly games.

Honestly, I don't mind repeats because I feel like I can always make use of them again with friends. First time around is fun by yourself but the multiple times afterward, as long as you're willing to think outside the box, you can make use of it. Also, easter eggs are a nice source of presents to give to villagers as I like collecting photos.

This doesn't bother me considering it's always being like this with past AC games.

I quite like that the events repeat themselves, because it means that people who may not have being able to participate in them can do so. I also don't mind replaying my favourites.

Bunny Day ever is a massive no from me, and I won't be repeating that one 😂

well i mean, holidays are repeated irl, too so i’m not really bothered by it lol. that being said, i don’t participate in repeat events but as long as each event gets a few new items or something new to do every year, i’ll be happy. :’)

I didn't play Bunny Day last year since I didn't have the game yet. I think it's nice that the events are repeated so that people who bought the game more recently can enjoy them. I think in a way this game is meant to be entertaining for a year. Once you've seen everything and completed your museum (if you can do it in a year), you're essentially done. You can try to earn a 5 star island and a gold trophy house. You can try to complete all the Nook Mile achievements and learn all the DIYs. But, if you do all that, then you have to find ways to keep the game interesting, like terraforming or inviting new villagers to earn their photos. Or you can reset and start over, maybe with a different theme.

As someone who didn't yet own a Switch/the game until May 2020, I definitely appreciate the opportunity to obtain items and recipes that I missed out on. Collecting two sets of recipes would be very tedious and time-consuming, so I probably would have ended up collecting one set per year, anyways. If it's possible to get recipe sets through Nook's Cranny, like how we could buy the Turkey Day recipe set the day after the event, that would work, too.

Even as someone who doesn't celebrate certain holidays IRL nor necessarily use items crafted from seasonal recipes, it is nice to be able to satisfy the completionist in me and collect the items/recipes anyways. Besides, just because I don't celebrate a holiday doesn't mean I would never want to decorate with the items in-game.

The game flows with the time of what is going on in real life, soooo it kinda makes sense right?

If there's a holiday in real life then why wouldn't there be a holiday in a game that is simulating that?

I haven't participated in it since it's the same as last year and I have no desire to recraft everything all over again, but I totally understand why it's the same and wouldn't expect anything different because it's the same irl anyway. I appreciate the addition of the new furniture items though!

i like repeated events! it lets me catch up on stuff from the year before since i don't like time traveling unless i have to for some reason, and i think it would be unfair for me to expect the devs to pump out unique content every year for something. as someone whose played since wild world, i can appreciate the tradition that having repeating events brings. it kinda adds to the feeling of the passage of time and stuff, which i feel like the game is centered around (? i'm not sure how else to phrase it but i hope that makes sense).

I like repeated events since Animal Crossing is based on the real life clock. I never thought anything about it and thought they were normal since the same "repeating events" happen in real life too.

I'm honestly more surprised that people thought we would get drastic changes with everything. While ACNH now has a more games as a service live update model, it doesn't make it a MMO.

It is tradition!!! Just like life -- the repetition makes it meaningful. I did miss all of Bunny Day this year. 😞 😂

Repetition is not always good thing though. I mean even though I experienced the events last year, I would assume they would at least change up the event to give returning players a reason to replay the event, but sadly not so much. I mean sure there is the 5 new Bunny items at the shop, but it isn't enough to convince me to even play the event.

Also since I'm the topic of events the Bunny Day event for me really was a joke. I ended up getting duplicate items, because I already collected all the Bunny DIYS last year. No new DIYS, No new items that Zipper gives you, its all the same this year. If you missed it you can time travel back and experience it again, its your call if you want to experience the event and not have to wait a whole year for the next one.

I don't mind that they repeat events. I figured that they would, since they did in New Leaf. I think making brand new holiday events yearly would be really tricky and I think the way they handled it this year was perfectly fine. I like that the events are the same because that means I can sell all the crafted furniture I've made. This year was way easier to decorate for since I already had the DIYs, I just needed to find the eggs. I was able to decorate my island for Bunny Day and now that it's over I can sell all my decorations to Timmy and Tommy without feeling bad. I like that the Bunny Day decorations aren't tricky to make so I'm not worried about repeating the process next year.

With Bunny Day in particular I like how the main event stayed the same but they introduced a few new buyable items from Timmy and Tommy and slightly tweaked the mechanics from last year. The furniture pieces are all really cute and they work wonderfully for Bunny Day without being as over the top as the craftable furniture. I would love to see more pieces like this come into play for future holidays as well. They fixed Bunny Day partway through last year, but still. I appreciate how the eggs are still plentiful but not over the top like last year. I hope that they also continue to improve on the already standing holidays in game. (ie: Don't make the gold ornaments and festive DIYs so tricky to find in December, please).

Events used to be repeated in the past so I wasn't expecting them to change that. If anything, it would be kind of unfair to newcomers because they wouldn't be able to get the items from last year, even though honestly I'd be fine with this year's items only as they're 1000 times better. I'm guessing seasonal events will follow this pattern from now on so it's basically a free day to not play or do something else if you have everything.

Did some of y'all really expect there to be a different event for Easter this year?

I feel old. Events repeat every year in AC games lmao. I think younger ppl generally have shorter attention spans and might get bored easily.

I don't like when the events get repeated but if they are anything like Bunny Day 2021 with new items I will just play to collect those and that's it. I really hope tho the rest of years events are all new

It's the point of the game, we also have Easter every year and such. It's good that people can earn seasonal events without having to play in 2020, but they could definitely add something new for people who already collected everything last time. Like letting people earn the new items they could buy in the shop and maybe start adding a prize pool for people that completed it, giving them one new thing each year.

I think it's more about New Horizons attracing a new playerbase, and the new update barrier raising expectations. After a year of updates and new additions it's only natural to expect it to keep going. Especially considering Nintendo promised three years of updates and additions.

With all due respect I don't have an issue with events repeating, but the problem I have is since I'm a returning player, I want to have a reason to participate in the event so that way I don't feel like its the exact same as year. Considering what they did with Bunny Day while they did add a new feature to make villagers run up to you to collect Bunny Day eggs/diys, and they added new items to the nook shop it does not really give me enough of a reason to play. I found out that even if you got all the Bunny Day DIYS from last year you get duplicate items of the items you already gotten.

Thats not really that good. I understand that its for new players who never played the event last year that never gotten the items, thats not the problem I have. The real problem is that there is really no reason for a returning player like myself to participate in it, because it lacks actual "new" things to do in the event. Yeah I know there is Bunny Day items at the shop but again its just items for decoration and its not really my style.

I only hope that Nintendo tries to add new content to past events to give returning players like myself a reason to replay the event even though I already played it last year. Not trying to sound negative, but I'm just saying how it is with the way they've done with the Bunny Day event. They need to focus on the returning players as well. If its just for new players only its going to be a balance issue between the player base.

I think it’s ok. I missed a lot of last years events from Oct-Feb. Its a busy season during work. I was exhausted during that time frame and didn’t really have time to participate much then. Maybe this year I get to collect the DIY I might have missed.

I only remember fully completing the Bunny day event last year and the Cherry blossom DIY. Everything else is partial.
