i am by no means complaining but i am curious as to what other people think. does anyone think its kind of outrageous the way things are priced on this forum for new horizons items/services/villagers?

the game just came out and already you see popular villagers going for upwards of 15mil bells and 20+ tickets. doesnt that seem pretty wild? how do people even have that much in-game currency already (we know how, but its not like its legitimate)?

i suppose theres nothing to be done about it, but as someone who frequents the marketplace on here just about every day (thanks to quarantine), its wild to see. then again, 2014-2015 new leaf wasnt much different.

it's all over the place. sometimes you have people charging insane prices, then you have people giving away things for free. It's just a matter of finding the right seller >.< I'd also recommend if you want to buy something, to make a price, and advertise what you are willing to pay for it. All we can do is hope that things settle soon.

Yea :( I'm sad because it's really hard to get. There are really kind users out there, though. They'll be very understanding if you're after your dreamies. However, I've seen some people expecting some outrageous offers :/

i saw someone mention that once everyone sort of gets to the same stage in the game, eventually the economy will transfer to tbt rather than bells which is i think is fair.

i know everyone wants their dreamies but holy cow...

I agree, it's a little wild! I used to be very active here for New Leaf and it was always nice being able to buy or trade things using TBT. I've only recently started checking things after more than a year away and I've decided I probably won't be trading from Belltree anymore lol.
Also, for the bells I suppose anyone who either farms tickets to get the tarantula island, or spends tickets making their own tarantula island (I do this sometimes), then saves up the insects to sell to Flick when he's around, could potentially get a few mil bells legitimately

yeah... its always hard to see threads of people offering audie, raymond, marshal, etc and you see someone offer something reasonable, only for another user to slide in offering something absolutely bonkers! makes you feel bad for people

i could see those methods working! i havent personally tried them (i sold a buttload of tbt to get bells so i havent needed to just yet) but i hear they can be quite lucrative!

also im sorry you wont be trading on here but you gotta do whats best for you and your island! luckily a lot of the things going for sale on here are acquired in game easily enough!

Sadly, the duping glitch seems to have made everything super inflated because of the influx of IGB

i feel like the price of things wouldnt be so outrageous if they had patched the duplication glitch as soon as it was discovered. its weird considering the saves are the way they are because they didnt want duping but here we are. ig i shouldnt complain because it was patched, but now we have people who are basically in "end game" bell-wise and are looking for their dreamies (and since dreamies are things people would spend an arm and a leg for they will spend anything to get it). all ik is if im letting go of a villager id be willing to let someone pick them up for hybrids or cute clothes lol

thats true. its one thing to have used that glitch in... "private" i guess? and used the bells for your town but its another to have used it and to come on here jacking up the prices for everything just because you can... its sad i think but eventually i would hope the market evens out a little bit. maybe when all those duped bells get spent huh

agreed... in new leaf i had dreamies given to me out right, just because they were someone i really wanted. and obviously i think its too early to see much of that in this game but... i suppose people can play how they want! just seems a little wild to me.

imo a contributing factor is the lack of amiibo cards for new villagers.. i'm sure an amiibo card for say, raymond, would probably run even more than marshal atm but it would at least be a way in which they could be obtained.

i think as things progress and more people obtain these villagers (and duped bells / miles are spent) there won't be as much of a scramble to obtain them on every thread they're for sale in and the prices will settle to something a little less outrageous

Oh yes! the only thing I'm missing that I would consider trading for are Cosmos flowers, but when I checked the trading forum earlier, I didn't see anyone offering those. If people start reverting to TBT, Ill probably do a bit of trading here and there :)

ive got some cosmos! only red and yellow but let me do a quick trade with my friend and if you still want them i can bring a few to your island! no charge! :3

This! I do this and I also use the stalk market. A lot of my fishing/bug catching profit gets poured into a budget for the stalk market which fosters slow but very booming/steady growth in the bank account too. (Most weeks, that is.)

However. That doesn't seem to compete with the outrageous prices. I've been doing that obsessively and have just barely scraped over 10 million as of like, this morning. But you see people bidding 25 million bells... Idk. I'm sure they aren't using the same sort of methods.

But the method that was being used has been patched and hopefully there is no alternate that has been discovered. I feel like this'll help even out the economy, but it'll happen gradually I'm sure. It's hard because right now is the best time to play, so everyone is playing obsessively and wants to trade things badly but most of the villager bids on this forum aren't even possible to participate in. Even some of the furniture-related things are kind of ridiculous. But there are definitely a few kind users who will be a little more reasonable! You just have to weed through everything else.

for a lack of better word, INSANE. whew. obviously there are some who trade reasonably, but some are forced to raise their prices because of the standards some sellers/traders have set. can't wait until it settles down but i'm not sure if it's happening anytime soon. the prices are crazy and it's almost as if the miles tickets have became a new form of currency lmao.

the prices are absolutely outrageous but besides from that, it’s nice trading with people again

oh yeah dont get me wrong, i have enjoyed trading lately and ive gotten some really good items out of it. im saying specifically the people who are asking an arm and a leg for simple furniture or asking tens of millions of bells for a villager are a bit nuts

We're just out of release week, give the economy some time to stabilize. But also prices will remain somewhat higher because trading is now behind a paywell, less traders = less things in the economy.
So like instead of 200 Raymond trades you'll get 10 for now.

i dont think its only being just out of release week that makes the economy unstable though... i think the exploit was what really tipped it. because yes, the game is new and people are still feeling out what to offer for certain things, but loads of people having an excess of in-game bells doesn't help. where they may only bid, lets say 10 million like a user posted here earlier, because thats all they have, people are posting way higher than that because they were able to exploit the game. i think that is what Really is making the economy so buck wild. and that may not stabilize as fast.

I’ve decided to stay out of the market for now—just looking through the listings is a bit depressing to me. I’m not judging anybody for paying or even demanding those prices though; people either really want that villager/thing, or think they need the money to later buy a villager/thing themselves.

If everyone started charging reasonable prices we wouldn’t be in this situation for much longer. While people tarantula farming etc. might have the competitive edge for a while, the number of desperate people resorting to the same strategies will increase until they’re all on the same level again. Only then they’ll all be putting in tedious work that wouldn’t have been necessary in the first place.

(There’s a part of me that finds it hilarious that the best way to make high profit is by surrounding yourself with something many players despise—ingame and rl! It’s beautifully twisted, along the lines of getting rich by selling your soul—and Tarantula Island is Hell! XD )

LMAO literally. I have stopped because it's just such a pain to go through. First you have to set it up and it takes hours after that. And then you get bitten. It startles me every single time and it's probably happened to me like 1000 times by now lol.

Funnily enough I was trying to get so many bells via this method and others to be able to compete in the market, but then I ended up getting the unnamed villager in question for free lmao. Which is a blessing. I wouldn't have ever probably been able to compete in this market no matter how many tarantula islands I suffered through lmao. At least I can pay off all those inclines now.

It's kind of annoying that NMT are currency now. I saw a thread, without naming names, just today where someone bid on a villager (the same one I was previously searching for) with 3 figures of NMT. 100+ NMT! Geez. I mean I guess that works. Who would've thought, though.
