I've seen quite a few threads here where people are looking for DLCs they missed out on because they didn't have a Nintendo Zone wifi nearby, so I'll share an easy tip where you can get all your Nintendo Zones at home! :D

On your home wifi, check to see if you have a guest network feature. If so, great. If not, not to worry. Your home wifi broadcasts a name which is called a SSID. For example, if you have a Belkin router, it may broadcast a SSID of 'Belkin'. You can change the SSID.

Go into your router settings page. You can find this page by going to http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1, login and check to see if you have a guest network. If so, enable it. If not, you will need to temporarily change the SSID.

By changing the SSID to '_The Cloud' (without the apostrophes), you'll trick your 3DS into thinking you're at a Nintendo Zone, therefore you'll be able to get all DLCs without leaving the comfort of your own home! Cool eh?

If you're not sure how to change it, get a parent or whoever deals with the wifi in your house to have a look for you.

If you do have a guest network feature, you'll be able to leave this on permanently and connect to it whenever you want to get a special DLC, but ensure it's an easy password so you're able to remove it from your 3DS to get regular DLCs too.

One final thing to note though, you'll get the Nintendo Zone app pop up on the home screen, but because it isn't actually a verified Nintendo Zone, you won't be able to use that app from home. Works great with in-game DLCs though, of course.

Hope this helps. Don't miss out on any future DLCs with this trick.

I suppose it is handy. Just don't leave your router unsecured. BTW in some cases you cant get DLC as it will say cannot connect to server.

Should be pointed out that renaming your SSID to '_TheCloud" will only work for people with the european game. If you want to do the same but in North America, you'll have to change your SSID to 'Bestbuy' and it should work the same.

also, attwifi works as an SSID with your router disabled.

That goes without saying. Years ago I once logged into a neighbours router and changed their SSID to 'secure me' as they'd just plugged it in and left it without securing it or even changing the default login password! Hehe.

They secured it a day later.

That's good to know for North American users. If anyone else around the world knows what to change their SSID to for free Nintendo Zone DLCs, it would be helpful to post them here. :D

Or if you don't feel confident fiddling around with your router settings you can use the portable hotspot function on a smartphone. That's what I've been doing. Basically you make a hotspot with the name BestBuy or _TheCloud and connect your 3DS to it. I suggest making it your number one connection and your normal router the number two connection.

Does it really work with your phone though? Can anyone verify this?

The reason I ask if because in the recent past I had a fault with my cable internet connection which was out of my hands so I was trying to trade and set-up a wifi connection using my phones wifi connection, but it gave me an error immediately. Maybe it works for just downloading the DLC, but I know it doesn't work for people wifi'ing with each other.

I'll have to give that a shot and see if it works soon. :)

Hi Funky, it works for me in both cases: I can tether to acquire the DLC & I was able to Wifi w/ Tigereyes who resides in Scotland. Good luck!

In case anyone is interested, I have a step-by-step guide >> here << on how to use a smartphone to get EU/NA DLC's.

It might be easier for some people to change their device settings instead of their routers.
