I am just going to say this. If you ever think about moving away you still need to be fully prepared. I had to learn the hard way after dealing with so much stuff throughout 2024. I am just going to give tips for those who plan to move out and don't want to be caught off guard.

1. Make sure you sell/donate/trash any items that you don't really need
2. Always have a backup plan (Airbnb) in case something goes wrong with the house sale
3. Have Family and Friends help you with your move it is a lot of work
4. Check Budget to see if you have enough to hire movers and a Dumpster to throw away stuff
5. If you're having trouble finding a place to live hire a Realtor and they will help you
6. When you're moving into your new place take it one step at a time and don't rush yourself
7. Make sure you have enough money to get essential items that you need for your new place
8. Update all contact info so that way your mail and other important stuff is up to date

Thats all I can give. I know everyones experience is different so just remember what you're going to deal with whenever you are thinking about moving to a new place because this is not easy at all and its not simple as you think it is. If there is any tips you want to give then I would like to hear it.

I'm in the process of moving right now, for the first time. Great tips! This week, the timing of certain things are all starting to pile up and I'm definitely getting stressed.

I have a mattress getting delivered sometime on Friday so I need to work from there in a couple days, but we don't have wifi installed yet. Our router is getting delivered to the unit this evening so I need to run down there to self-install that, but I ALSO have to go pick up a couch after work today. So, I have to drive & park my brother's pickup truck through the city a couple times today. Definitely not a quick in-and-out. 🙃

On top of that, I have clients messaging me with more and more tasks out of the blue!
Didn't think moving would be this crazy. Wish me luck. /end rant

Sometimes it is better to donate items you do use and buy new after you leave. For example, a big chair or couch may not be easy to move, and takes up room in the moving truck, trailer, or what ever you are using to move with. It may still be good, but old. Is it worth the space and trouble to move when you're probably going to get a new one in few months or year being in a new place? Will you have help loading and unloading? Is it worth an extra trip in gas? What if you already have something to sit on to get you by that is smaller. Maybe, maybe not.
Also, if you donate a bunch to places like salvation army or goodwill, you could use it as a tax write off to help you out I think.
When getting ready to move, sometimes it's easiest to start with trash and things you know you don't want to take with. Then start packing stuff you want but don't use regularly.
I tried explaining this to my mom who is having to move due local government issues and she doesn't grasp it. She wants to find a house to buy first before packing, but that isn't how it really works and there are things she could easily start knocking out now like tossing trash items and giving away things she doesn't want. Or even posting them up for a couple bucks since it is just sitting there anyway.

I'm moving this year to be on my own and the only advice I really have to add is to have a good support network of family, friends, and people to help you move. I've moved houses plenty of times when I was younger and it really does help A TON. Also if you're moving and you're going to be the owner of the place, you'll want to make sure you have good credit and a clean background history, but I think that goes without saying.

Hire a pro cleaner before and after moving in/out. Saves sooo much stress of already having the stuff in the place, and then having to work around it.
