TP roll placement reasons

I was recently told that TP rolls were designed to be placed a certain way in the holder so you don't get surprised by a spider clinging to the back of the roll. I don't see how either would prevent that. Are there any other reasons?

Of course mega sized rolls are too big to fit in the holder anymore.

Imo putting the roll on backwards makes it more difficult to tear off. When it's over the front it just... rolls better I guess? I've never heard of the spider thing, but if I told my mom she'd flip lmao


People who place toilet paper anywhere besides on the roll up over the front really irritate me. But that's partly because I have OCD and I grew up in a house which was partly maintained by my OCD mother (who agrees with me).

Whoever designed my bathroom decided to install the roll holder so close to the toilet that it would jab into your ribcage to actually put toilet paper there, so I put my toilet paper on a shelf. That being said, when I used to have a good holder, I like it facing outwards.

My toilet paper sits on the back of the toilet because I have a really tiny bathroom and no holder. Also, because I have animals and don't like it to get wasted. But when I used to put it on a holder, I always placed it so it was over, never under.

Whether it be toilet paper or paper towel, I've always tended toward having the roll be front-facing. I've occasionally tried it the other way, but it just doesn't feel right to me since I was raised having the rolls facing forward. Having them backward makes their use more inconvenient, in my opinion.

I think the correct placement of a toilet paper roll is in any position that suits your comfortable needs.
