Heyo.

How do you traditional artists like to color your stuff? Colored pencils? Watercolor? Charcoal?

I'd also like to know some good brands.

I wanted to get watercolored pencils but I don't know what's good and what's not...

Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils <3
Amazing for shading, blending, and filling. They break pretty easy since they r softcore but that is an easy fix! I recommend getting all 250, they are truly amazing <3

I don't know much about watercolor tho hahaha

I use watercolor a lot. Not pencils but paint. I recommend Winsor & Newton. It's really nice quality and a good price too!
No matter what the brand, get yourself some watercolor paper for sure! I use Strathmore and Arches.

I agree with the Prismacolor premier pencils! They blend so smooth! For watercolors, it doesn't really matter as long as it isn't Crayola. They all work about the same for me. Faber Castell seems like a good brand though.

Better quality doesn't necessarily replace technique and experience though. :)

I never have a problem with crayola?

I use Crayola color pencils and markers whenever I color art, but that's rare for me. xD

I only use a Pilot lead pencil. I like the idea of drawing using only one tool. Plus, its easier to doodle in class that way xD

i like to use my promarker + tombow dual tip pens !! the promarkers come in a wide range of colours and are nice for layering up [and they're cheaper than copics hhaha]

i also use gouache paints [winsor + newton] as they are much more opaque + vivid than watercolours imo. you can easily recreate the watercolour effect with them too.

pencils-wise, crayola has never failed me, and i buy crappy unicorn ones whenever i go to asia haha

I like to color with colored pencils, watercolor and poster color. Definitely agree with Prismacolor and Winsor & Newton (though they're pretty expensive where I'm from) so I just really use Faber Castle for colored pencils, Prang for watercolor and Sakura for poster paint. :D

aa yeah i forgot to mention that !! winsor + newton gouache paints are ridiculously expensive, but i have yet to finish [or even get halfway] through a 14ml tube after half a year c:

I can't really speak for coloured pencil (I only have a tin tube of them from paperchase lmao) although I'm interested in getting some 'proper' ones! For black and white drawings (for me) charcoal is better than graphite pencils usually, I use 3 shades of 'Derwent charcoal pencils' and a couple of blending tools cause I haaatteee using my fingers, but they're not needed lmao. I use a paper blending stump thing and a rubber 'angle chisel' for tiny details.
Charcoal is great and pretty fun to use but it can be a little messy especially if you don't hairspray it or use something to set it at the end when you're all finished.

Good ol' mechanical pencils.. with interchangeable thicknesses and lead types, of course.

I totally agree, a good mechanical pencil is one of my favourite things to sketch with ! although I nearly always put the wrong leads in them XD
