So we all know there's 2 different types for each personality in New Horizons, right? Type A's and type B's.

Well I've noticed something specifically about my Type B crankies; they're very stoic!
By that I mean whenever I go up to them and do a Reaction of any kind, I get almost no response out of them....EVER! (sometimes if I React with "Sorrow" they'll do the "Sheepishness" response, but that's only sometimes...)

This only seems to be the case with my Type B crankies (Chief and Wolfgang); for Curt, who is Type A, he'll react just as colorfully as the rest of my villagers when I start using a lot of Reactions around them. With Chief and Wolfgang I'm lucky if I get a smile, but most of the time it's just blank stares ._. They don't even wave back at me when I use the "Wave Goodbye" Reaction :c

And this isn't just isolated to the villagers on my island; while villager hunting not too long ago I ran into Apollo (who is Type B), and decided to test it out with him to see if he'd give the same response (or lack thereof lol), and sure enough I only got blank stares 😭

Has anyone else encountered this or noticed something similar? Honestly, I'm willing to bet that it's more than likely some kind of weird glitch with my game and not some feature with Type B crankies 😅

Hopefully my question makes sense haha I can provide a video to demonstrate if it doesn't 😅😅

This actually made me curious so I went off to try it on my own crankies and see~ When I had Chief, and Wolfgang they didn't wave to me either..

So for my current four,

Static doesn't react to either wave, he just gives me a stare, sometimes he smiles. Tom, and Kabuki also don't wave, and kinda just stare at me. I can just about crack a smile out of them lol.

Bruce waves, kinda surprised xD But he waves back to me, unlike the other three.

@CylieDanny How interesting! Static, Tom, and Kabuki are all Type B's!! Bruce is a Type A so him giving a wave back seems consistent with my Type A's behavior 😲

I'm glad I'm not alone in this LOL I guess this proves that Type B's will react by silently judging you at all times LMAO

xD Yes, most defently silently judgmental about everything I do lol

Two judgy cats, and one judgy Squirrel lol. Bruce is more open I guess lol.

I don’t know what my crankies subtypes are but i am curious about this. I have Dobie and Lobo and even they are both cranky they are vastly different imo. I’ll have to try this and see what happens. I know when I TT Lobo never yells at me for not talking to him, but Dobie straight yells at me for ignoring him.

@tiffanistarr Definitely, I'd love to hear how yours respond to Reactions! I'm now curious if this is in fact some kind of personality "trait" of Type B crankies (or perhaps it's just an unassessed bug lol)

Lobo is Type B, and Dobie is Type A!

@littlesnorlax Very interesting, so this was programmed on purpose! Was there ever a reason given why Type B crankies and Type A snooties are so stoic? Are they supposed to come off as more standoff-ish, or perhaps more "collected"?

Perhaps! This is what the companion guide says about them (screencapped from here), so I'm guessing it's just to try and give variety between villagers within the same personality type. It's also why all the villagers wave at you differently (some one handed, some two handed, some slow, some fast), which is fun ^^

@littlesnorlax Ahahah I guess they're just too cool to give any of us the time of day XDDD
Yeah, that is another thing I noticed about the Type B crankies and Type A snooties, is that their waves goodbye are very reserved, in comparison to the other crankies/snooties where they send you off with a big smile and a wave lol
I wonder if this feature has been present any AC games in the past, or if NH is the first to try this?

In any case that's kinda neat! I'm definitely glad my game wasn't bugged or anything 😅😂
I still wish they'd wave me goodbye tho 😭

That would explain why Avery responds differently to reactions than most of the other characters in my island... It's a nice detail, I have to say. It helps make NH's villagers feel livelier than people make them out to be.

@littlesnorlax Type B Crankies still react to emotes, just not in the same most villagers do. I think it's the same with Type A Snooties, too.

At first it just confused me and for the longest time I thought there was something wrong with my game, but I'm very relieved to know this was intentional, and yes it definitely helped to add more personality to the characters for me 😁
