Update Discussions being too geared towards Northern Hemisphere players?

Am I the only who thinks that almost all discussions regarding updates coming within the next couple of months are geared towards Northern Hemisphere players? Like I hear a lot of people talking about updates adding a lot of "Summer" activities, and not talking about such updates also including stuff for Southern Hemisphere players to enjoy that fits the "Winter" aesthetic.

Like I hear a lot of people talk about diving, seafood cooking, and summery gardening coming (which I know is all because of the datamining, but I'd like to think that the devs would also include something for the southern hemisphere players to do that would fit the Winter season). I for one am from the Northern Hemisphere, and I also play in said hemisphere, but I do like to think about the players who live in or at least have a Southern Hemisphere island.

So I'd like to ask two questions...

1) Am I the only who feels like updates are (or at least the discussions surrounding the updates) are too geared around the Northern Hemisphere?
2) What Wintery stuff would you like to see added in a June/July update? (that perhaps only Southern Hemisphere players can fully enjoy.. Sorta like how diving would be fully enjoyable during the summer season because of how it just "fits in")

My response to number 2 would be...

  • Ability to make frozen pounds that melt when it gets warmer, but allows players to ice skate (i know unlikely, but a girl can dream/hope)
  • Ability to actually dress up the snow-people (sorta like how we used to be able to with the mannequins in New Leaf)
  • Snowball fights that you can have with your villagers and even friends by being able to craft your own snowballs in-game
  • Ability to add a snowball to a snow-person you already created, so he/she can live longer
  • Ability to cook hot cocoa where you use snowflakes to make marshmallows for it (I know it isn't fully realistic, but it would be cute)
I can't really think of many other wintery activities i would love to see come in June/July that southern hemisphere players could utilize immediately.

Well none of these updates are actually happening, so it’s just player discussion for now? Not actually something that Ninetendo are implementing so I don’t think Southern Hemisphere players are being left out. Probably just seems more prominent because there seems to be more players based in the Northern hemisphere than the South.

Basically by adding hemispheres nintendo will be doomed to add things to them

that makes the game's update span 6 months and not a year if I'm correct

wait till nintendo realizes their mistake

yeah, but i do think we should try to think more globally when we suggest things for the updates. Like sure you can speculate on summery activities, but i don't really see people saying something like, "Okay so they will include this for those of us playing with a Northern Hemisphere island, but also include this for players with a Southern Hemisphere island."

Even northern hemisphere players seem to be forgetting that there is another hemisphere to think about in regards to updates.

yeah at some point i bet southern hemisphere players will reset just so they can play with the "correct Animal Crossing" season. (By which i mean Summer during June-August, Winter from December to February, etc...) because that's how the devs think of seasons in regards to Animal Crossing.

No, that's fine. That's actually why I wanted to make this thread, so we can actually discuss what would like to see added to the game in regards to southern hemisphere stuff.

Why can’t Northern Hemisphere players think of ideas for summer and Southern think of ideas for winter? Like I honestly don’t think there’s anything that deep to it, just summer is right round the corner for those of us playing in the North so that’s more at the forefront of our mind. I’m just not really thinking about things we could do in a season that’s almost half a year away.

yeah, but i never see any discussion from the southern hemisphere in regards to updates for them. So I wanted to have a thread where we can discuss those updates.

Absolutely. I don't think anything has been confirmed yet, it's all just speculation. So it doesn't justify any special attention towards the Northern Hemisphere players. Guess we won't fully know anything until the announcements, possibly coming in the upcoming months.

yeah, but i have seen way too much speculation regarding summer activities, but not really a lot regarding winter activities for those in the southern hemisphere.

You also have to remember that around 90% of players are in the Northern Hemisphere. Think of the Southern Hemisphere as being left handed and seeing all these products made for right handed people.

If you want Southern Hemisphere discussion, be the change you want to see!

On topic: I am in the Northern Hemisphere, but time travel. I would like to see more than one snow person. Currently it is just Snowboy.

hmm I think they're just wayyy more people who are in the northern hemisphere using tbt so it's natural there's more talk about that

I'm wondering about what the devs will do though

hot beverages, secret santa/helping santa to deliver presents, christmas cookies & baking in general (?), advent calendar at nooks maybe, crafting mistletoes and more decor, ice skating

oh well I just realized christmas is still in december

I’ve been thinking about it whenever people bring up seasonal updates. All conversation I’ve seen seems focused on the Northern Hemisphere, and either ignores or simply forgets about the Southern’s existence.
In defense of people though, I will say that having different hemispheres is a completely new concept in Animal Crossing—it makes sense that it’ll take a while for that to fully sink in with all its implications. Everyone has become used to experiencing the seasons together after all.

That said, I do think catering content to one
Hemisphere above the other isn’t fair. If I were a SH player, I’d be pretty pissed if extra fall/winter content gets added right after those seasons have passed for me. The only way I can see that being acceptable is if new spring content gets added for them simultaneously.

"Think of the Southern Hemisphere as being left handed..." that hurts. xD I for on AM LEFT HANDED, and I guess that is why I feel for the southern hemisphere players

If they do the diving update in June/July/August, they could promote it as the northern hemisphere players doing leisurely summer dives for shrimps and clams while southern hemisphere get to test their mettle by diving for cold-water crabs and lobsters. I do agree that a lot of these discussions are are NH-centric, but the actual updates are largely either things that are available year round or holidays that occur on a specific date regardless of what hemisphere you're in.

It makes sense that discussions are mostly about the northern hemisphere, because there are simply more players there! We like to discuss what we are most familiar with, after all.

In terms of what kinds of updates could be added to the winter, I think that snowpeople/snowflake catching will likely be added as it existed in previous games. If diving or farming is introduced, maybe there could be a winter equivalent as well (with winter animals or foods)?
