Hey guys! Quick question if anyone has any insight.

I'm in CST, so for me the game is coming out at 11:00 PM on 03/19/2020. My local GameStop was going to do a midnight launch but they are no longer. Has anyone thought about or perhaps contacted their local Targets or Walmarts about getting the game Thursday evening? All my local stores close at 11:00 PM so I was going to call around and see if any would be willing to sell it to me right when it comes out as the stores are closing, but if not I will swing by GameStop in the morning and pick it up then. May be a longshot, but I really want that physical copy Thursday night! Was wondering if anyone else was planning on doing something similar.

Of course I don't want to be a nuisance, so if it's something that would cause those employees any amount of trouble as it technically comes out right as they close, I probably won't bother with it- but it certainly would be awesome is all.

I am from Canada, and I did call in Monday morning and questioned if they had copies arrive in stock, and would they have copies on release. I was told they do in fact have stock in, ready to be put on the shelves Thursday night, to be ready for Friday morning. I did make a passive comment about them doing a Thursday night release amidst the COVID-19 issues potentially causing an issue for Friday but they pretty much denied any chance of a Thursday release.

Stores like Walmart and Target are unlikely to break street date and tend to stick to release dates. Game Stores can get away with it a bit better. It's worth a shot calling about it, though. My Walmart denied the chance, but yours may allow it.

I decided to go with Digital in the end, since I value my safety and health in the end. Even though I prefer physical, sometimes rough choices have to be made in the end.

Really appreciate the insight, thanks! Have fun with the game.

I know that some stores in certain countries of the EU have started selling it already. But I think that Nintendo needs to give permission first. Maybe something similar will happen in NA

I highly recommend going digital. I know some people strongly prefer physical copies, but your health is extremely important, especially right now!

Some have said it's impossible for them to sell it early because the system won't let them sell it until the time matches release date.

I also just wanted to stop in and let you know that starting today, all Targets are closing at 9pm so there’s definitely no way street date could be broken. I work at Target and my store entertained the idea of letting guests pick up their copies at 11pm Thursday but now with the early closings there’s no way we could :(

They are legally not allowed to and their systems won’t let them if they even tried.

Trust me, I’ve tried lol

I didn't know any target stayed open until 11pm. My Target closes by 10pm

Oooh gotcha, just now seeing that on their website. Thanks for the information, maybe I'll call them just to ask anyways but at that point they'd be breaking street date by about >2 hours so it's unlikely. Thanks for the insight!

Good luck getting your game!

Thanks! :)

I think you'll just need to pick it up on Friday morning. All Walmart stores have changed their hours because of the virus, so even the 24 hour stores are temporarily no longer 24 hours. I plan to go Friday morning.

The hours are changing because of the virus. Mine used to be open until 11pm. But now they've changed mine to close at 9pm for now.

You could try calling, but unfortunately I'm guessing the answer will be no, since this is a major release and Nintendo will likely have to approve of any sales prior to release date.

My store is a Super Target so we close at 11pm Sunday-Thursday and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. But now we are closing at 9pm for the foreseeable future. We all have to stay until 11 or 12 though to either stock or clean, we don't get to leave at 9 unfortunately.
