I was thinking of buying some used switch games along with the purchase of a Nintendo Switch.

The only issue is this:
I've read that having a used game that MIGHT used to belong to a hacker (in online mode), could very well get your own Nintendo Switch banned from online mode as well.

Exact Wording:
"This is possible because the company has unique keys to identify each Switch game card. If the card is dumped onto the Nintendo Switch's memory (which any custom firmware user can do easily) and that copy is used online, Nintendo will ban it."

Any thoughts or knowledge of this? I'm so afraid of getting my switch banned online! BUT I also want to save some money.

Actually, I suspected this sort of thing was possible. People could buy games with the sole purpose of making a "backup" of them, either for themselves to use or perhaps even to dump for the hacking scene, and turn around and sell them.

And when Nintendo detects that two copies of the same cartridge ID are online at once, ban hammer!

It's probably rare, but I'm sure it does happen. And I've avoided buying any used games for my Switch for that very reason.

That article is over a year old. I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's possible, but extremely unlikely that you'll pick up a used game whose unique ID was banned. In the off chance you did, take a picture of your receipt and contact Nintendo to prove it.

Nintendo bans the Switch with the ID when they see several copies of it appear in their logs. 100+? That's definitely been distributed online by pirates.

I'd you shouldn't worry too much about it, because only one person (the person who had the original) would have traded it in if the ID was banned.
