Hey guys. Are any of you familiar with Destructoid?
They're a videogame news / commentary website. The classic "Hey Ash Whatcha Playin" series had roots on that site, so did the notorious Jim Sterling, and I've been a longtime fan of what they do.
My animation team was recently contacted by Dtoid, and we were essentially hired to do a cartoon that Jonathan Holmes (of Teenage Pokemon and Sup Holmes fame) created and wrote the idea for. The cartoon is based on a twitter conversation that Holmes had with someone about videogames and their effect on people psychologically.
My team and I produced the animated video for them, being super flattered to be associated with the same name that people like Holmes, Sterling, and the Burch family are associated with throughout their careers.
Here's the rub -
I originally saw the idea as just a harmless, silly little idea that shows how ridiculous twitter conversations can be from both sides. I knew that Holmes was poking a bit of fun, but I also knew that he comes across silly as well. I never thought the video would get so much hate!!
Most of the negative reaction is coming from this group "Gamer Gate," that I personally don't know much about at all, but you guys might. Maybe you could explain it to me?
Here's the video:

I thought it might be good for some discussion. If you like the video, please give it a thumbs up to combat this very heavy negative reaction!! And please know that it was not my intention, as the animator for the piece, to cause any trouble! I was just doing a job!
Thanks!!
