Many people have migrated to Bluesky from X and such. I'm tired of chasing the new thing, but I do want to follow an artist. I didn't have much of a choice with tumblr, that was as annoying as it was funny.

Can we list pros and cons of bluesky vs twitter/X without mentioning the owner?

One bluesky con I've heard about is the preexisting userbase.

I've started using Bluesky as I couldn't log into Mastodon very well
I still use X for my followers, but I've got a Bluesky account now.

One thing I've found is random people seem to find my posts easier, I get a lot more likes on my stuff without actual followers

I haven’t used Bluesky yet. Maybe I should, but I can’t stop thinking it’s pronounced “blewski” like a “brewski” for some reason lol.

Part of it, is that I already feel spread thin on social media. I have an X/Twitter, Instagram, Threads, Facebook (which I rarely use), and this. It doesn’t sound like much, but I don’t know…I’m tired of signing up for things.

But yeah…it sounds to me like there are a LOT more active users on Bluesky than Threads, which means more engagement.

I've never used Twitter nor much social media, but I'm considering looking at this app.

It reminds me of Walter White's product in Breaking Bad. Which was called 'Blue Sky'.

Bluesky doesn’t prevent genAI scraping but they aren’t going to compulsively feed it to the owner’s training database and I view this as a huge plus.

I'm an early user of Bluesky from when the site was still in Beta. I got an invite code back then and have posted off and on for many months. The main pros of the site are that it's much less toxic than X and that it doesn't seem as overrun with bad posts. When I go through my feed on Bluesky I enjoy it much more than X.

The downside is the site is still fairly small. It's much bigger than when I started last year, but there still isn't nearly as many users or content as X. If you want a less toxic version of X it's perfect, but if you like posting and want a lot of engagement on what you share it won't be at the same scale.

I do think that BlueSky is a nice looking social media platform (as much as I can say for a Twitter-style platform, which is not my personal favorite), but every time I've logged onto it, none of the people I want to follow are there. It looks like it's seeing a surge now so I do need to check back every once in a while.

I will say I like it better than Threads, which requires linking to Instagram. The only Instagram I have is my IRL profile with my real name and a profile picture of me. I like the easy anonymity of BlueSky like Twitter. There are aspects that I talk about freely online but not IRL, like being nonreligious. I feel incredibly limited on Threads.

I'm new to Bluesky, so I don't know the pros and cons yet but it reminds me of old twitter in 2010, I have my quiet bunch of people and trolls and bots didn't find us YET.

i've been on the fence on making an account lately cause i hate twitter but a few of my friends are still there/active on twitter. ideally i want to have less accounts to keep track of but it's worth moving over to

I’ve joined that site a month ago and I really like it! Pretty much left my twitter alone especially since bots keep following me there and it’s tiring to see lol I love seeing what artists and indie devs have been making etc and overall, its a chill place so far in my experience.

I made an account a few days ago and poked around a bit. It seems nice, but I don't really use social media very often.

I don't use social media in terms of interacting with people, so Twitter/Bluesky/what have you has never appealed to me in that regard. However, I do have a Bluesky account in case the hockey accounts I follow on Twitter ever join so that way I can follow them on there. So far it hasn't completely happened yet, which is unfortunate since I'd definitely love to leave Twitter behind at this point, lol.

After the recent surge a lot of people I follow on Twitter have either moved over to Bluesky or are crossposting.

Recently I haven't been using social media as much, but my overall impression so far is:

Twitter is overall better for posts, Bluesky is better for replies.

The reason I say that is on Bluesky the userbase is still a bit limited. The main reason I hop on Twitter now is to find out what gaming news there is, what's trending, events going on here in Tokyo/collabs etc. and there is less of that on Bluesky.
But Bluesky is good for personal posts if you're into that.

Also, for some account that crosspost to Twitter and Bluesky I've checked the identical posts' comments and oh boy is it night and day. Twitter's replies are almost all toxic, meanwhile every reply on Bluesky I've seen is civilized.
