I feel like as a kid I wanted to do this, but in WW it wasn't as easy to rotate villagers. Their personalities were also way easier to get attached to imo. Anyway! With this game (NH) I've had this idea in the back of my mind to over time collect EVERY villagers pictures. I know its obtainable, especially since I'm fine with TT. But lord I can only imagine how much would go into that, and I don't want to let go of a few of my favs from old games, so rotation would be slow. Has anyone else wanted to try this? I hate wording the question that way because obviously other people probably have LOL

Sort of? I'm rotating them to get their posters registered properly, and only go for pictures if I really like the villager, and I only have 5 rotations spots myself. But considering how long some of them stay on my island, I'm pretty sure I could get pictures if I was actually trying for them, especially with TT.

I probably won’t try to get all of them because there are some villagers that I really dislike and don’t want on my islands. I like collecting photos and want to get as many as I can though. I don’t time travel though and it’s hard for me to let my villagers move out because I get attached, so it will take a long time. So far I have photos from 17 villagers on my main island and 4 on my second island.
I'm doing this as well, actually! I have six permanent villagers in my primary island, with a rotating cast of 4 villagers. I also have a secondary island where I'm trying to earn pictures as well. I TT, so it's not been a pain, but it's been great getting to know villagers I normally wouldn't pick.
TBH, I'm at the point where I'm rotating villagers I like just because I've found I get bored with villagers after awhile (though some, like Julia and Shep currently, I'm having trouble letting go of!). My rules right now for most of them is to get their pics before moving! I don't plan on getting ALL villager pics, but I'll get as many as I can. Since I'd be rotating villagers anyway, I figure I may as well try getting as many pics as possible!

I don't time travel so this would be impossible to do XD I have all the amiibo cards so this technically would be possible, but that's way too much effort and time. I really don't feel the need to do it. Just knowing I *can* is enough. I do want the new villagers photos tho!

I plan on trying to get their photo before I let them move on. Accept Mapel. She can stay, and maybe Fauna. Everyone else is debatable; they can move when they want after I get their photo. But I am not actively going to try and collect them all. Passively collect the ones that move through my village.
I've been doing this since the start and I quite recommend it. Obtaining ALL of the villagers pictures without trading for any is extremely time consuming though, and kind of far fetched. I started with an initial goal of 50 pictures which I've achieved. I'm right around the 65-70 mark now, only having traded for about 5 or 6 of them, earning the rest. It's quite fun imo and allows you to experience a lot of villagers.
I don't really hold on to the concept of dreamies or totally permanent residents. I think it'd get stale if I kept the same 8-10 villagers the entire time, so I like to let most of them leave when they ask, and I'm not very picky about which campers I let move in. This has led me to cycling through 24 villagers in the 9 months the game's been out, with no sign of slowing down. I've gotten or will get a photo from all but one. Not bad!
i’ve definitely thought about doing this but seeing as how i don’t really tt and i have a set list of dreamies, this probably wouldn’t really work out for me lol. i did, however, collect all of the villager pics in new leaf, though; wasn’t that big of an accomplishment since i bought or traded for most of them but still, it was a nice thing to collect. :’^)
