Villager prices: your opinion

i dont agree with the super high prices but i also dont agree with telling others how to play their game.

i think with new horizons they really nailed it because you can just go on the island and 9/10 you will find someone you like, unless you're very very picky in which case you're likely to want to buy the villager outright. also the flexibility of amiibo is great!

I personally would never buy a villager nor sell a villager.
I kinda just find people that are selling them (especially for really high prices) to be greedy. But if someone wants to pay that price, then go for it.
I have some amiibos and I wouldn’t mind just giving villagers away for free since I can get them back. I don’t see why I would need to make someone pay for them. Just doesn’t feel right to me.

I think selling them is fine, but you're right. The prices are insane, and 200 nmt is nearly impossible to have in-game without trade or spending real money. So it's really a harsh price. Just a few nmt, bells, or services like cataloguing and giving DIY recipes seems way more reasonable.

I gave away a ridiculous amount of tbt to adopt Dom but that was my choice. I was simply overjoyed at finding an original Dom being available for immediate adoption in the very same hour after I had tt-ed to get an open plot. I offered a princely sum because I didn't want to pass up the opportunity and because I had much tbt to spare. (I rarely trade.)

Another reason I adopted Dom was because I had given up 3 days of my life using the campsite method for Mr Office Cat. I did not want to go through that experience again for any villager. I usually do mystery island hopping to fill empty plots on my island. But it's never for a specific animal. (Because that would be too tedious.) I'm usually able to find someone I want to invite within 10-12 tickets.

I'm glad there is a market for trading villagers even though I almost never use it. It isn't surprising that the more popular ones will always be expensive, and that there will always be players who want more and never less even when a villager's popularity wanes. Since I get overly anxious and don't enjoy the experience of trading, I don't make use of the market. Adopting Dom was my first time for any villager. It's likely to be my last, too.

Neither Raymond nor Dom is ever leaving my island.

They're worth what someone is willing to pay. Who is anyone to judge a person for setting whatever price they want, whether it's free, or 5 million? The only one that stands to lose anything (virtually) is the lister of said item or villager.
While you are right that people can pay whatever they want, that doesn't mean people can't voice their opinions on how they feel about it. I think everyone has the right to judge.

I generally pay it forward...if I've received a villager from someone for free, then I give them away for free if I don't want to keep them.

That said, if it's a villager I found during my own island hops, I'm all for charging NMTs for them. I had to spend NMTs to find them in the first place.

I'm hopeful you didn't mean it this way, but the right to judge and the right to an opinion are NOT the same thing. Passing judgement assumes you're better than someone or something, while having an opinion simply means you believe a certain way.

With that said, you have a right to your opinion, just as I do. The right to judge, however, your conscience can decide that for you.

I suppose we differ because to me judging and opinions mean the same thing. I don't see judging as assuming you're better, I see judging as one looking at something and coming up with their opinion about it. Sorry if it came off in a different way.

No apology necessary.

i bought the majority of the villagers that i had in new leaf. this is because prior to the amiibo update and even after, since i don’t own any amiibo, the campsite + villager trading/buying/selling were really the only options for the longest time if there were particular villagers you were looking for, which i was. however, i never sold any villagers; i had a few cycling threads in 2015-2016 that i would inevitably close since i lose interest fairly quickly but during the course of that + after, i always gave villagers away for free, including the more popular ones.

that being said, i’m different in new horizons. i really like island hopping, despite how frustrating it can be, and so that’s where i’ve gotten the majority of my villagers, especially since the campsite is empty the majority of the time. prior to the game’s release, i made a vow that i would never purchase any villagers and i’ve stuck to that.

i don’t really have an opinion on villager selling other than people should do whatever they want. that being said, the prices can get pretty wild, something that was most apparent with raymond during the game’s first few months but from what i’ve seen, at least on the forums, villager prices seem to of gone down quite a bit and free villagers are more common to come across, now, which is nice :)

I wish they would release amiibo's for the new villagers, so people have a fair chance, and don't have to shed blood, or sell their virtual souls to buy them.

I honestly don't really remember paying for a villager but I know I have someway
I would look for giveaways too
The only thing that I think is like too much about the way things are going these days are just asking for an amount that doesn't fit in your invo & making the person who's buying the villager do more than one trip for it
I dislike that v much but I dislike it more when people take advantage of that. I think the max amount for an asking price should be the amount you could carry in one trip

Honestly, Nintendo still needs to improve the villager management system.

There are tons of villagers voided by people. I don't like the "void" system forcing someone to move in the next day without you doing anything. We need to have an option whether to accept or decline someone from moving in. In that way, this will give us opportunity to shop for other villagers or just go island hopping without a time limit.

As for the villager market, it's been a while since I put up someone there for a giveaway or sale. Honestly, I am happy with my current lineup unless if Judy shows up.

If I know that a villager I don't want anymore is somewhat popular, I will give them away for free on these forums :) I gave Stitches away a while ago to somebody, I like thinking that they're moving away somewhere they might enjoy better. I hope he's doing alright!

I haven’t sold a villager or bought. I have been kindly allowed to give a home to Megan and Dobie 💕 they are not going anywhere.

I love this forum as so many people just give out of kindness when they are able 😍

I am interested in gradually getting all eight new “New Horizons” islanders: Cranky elephant Cyd; Snooty bear cub Judy; Lazy goat Sherb; Normal bear Megan; Jock sheep Dom; Peppy werewolf Audie; Smug cat Raymond; and Uchi horse Reneigh.

I have, so far, Dom and Audie.

Are you enjoying Megan? Is there anything you can say [write] about her?

(Thank you!)

Hi, I really like Megan, she is such a cutie. A bit like a giant care bear 😍 Also got Audie and she is my fav. Reneigh I’m not sure about her personality yet. Had her from the beginning so reluctant to let her go.

Hope you get all your dreamies soon 😊

most of my villagers i’ve acquired from villager hunting or amiibo. only traded for and acquired dom for a reasonable 40 nmts because i don’t have the patience to keep using the tickets to hunt for 1 specific villager, when someone is offering him cheaper than i thought it would be. the difference between him & other villagers i met from the mystery islands is that i wasn’t specifically looking for a certain villager then. it was like, whoever comes come and i’ll see from here. but.....

like are y’all really gonna judge me for getting him that way instead of using *MORE* tickets for a chance to find him and at the same time wasting hours of my time? no thanks. sometimes you have to apply logic & convenience when you have the resources already.

not gonna judge you if you’d rather do that. but that’s my take on this and that’s that.

I got Dom through an agreement reached with another member here at Bell Tree Forums.

No—what you did is very reasonable. The Mystery Island, with use of Nook Miles tickets, is senseless. In my last three trips, in which I used a combined total of nearly 100 Nook Miles Tickets, I came across none of the eight new “New Horizons” islanders. And I experienced repeated showings of some islanders on one given game date. So, I ended up getting both Dom and Audie from here.

I don’t think well of Mystery Island adventures because, frankly, 2,000 for each Nook Miles Ticket is too costly. And if one builds up 50,000 or more in Nook Miles—and it took a while to reach—it feels like so much of a risk that is too much of a risk. This isn’t everyone’s feeling. But, it is the case with a lot of people. To have people wanting 100 Nook Miles Tickets for a much sought-after islander is asking for a lot.

I want to see an update from “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” in which the cost of each Nook Miles Ticket is reduced by at least 50 percent. This would mean going from 2,000 to 1,000 Nook Miles for each Nook Miles Ticket.

I also want the manufacturing and release of new “New Horizons” amiibo cards for the eight new islanders.

that’s very true. now i doubt they’d lower the prices but i know a lot of us would benefit from that. but they could have some changes in store for us. i was shocked with some of the reactions how people seem like almost looking down on people who do get villagers from trading. they might not be doing it, but it’s kind of like the sentiment of it. i’m not singling anyone out, but since it’s an opinion thread maybe i need to show the other side and enlighten them why people DO buy or trade.

they have to consider that some people look for a more reasonable option if it’s workable. some people don’t want the risk of losing plenty of nmt’s and still not getting the villagers they want, and some people want to trade villagers they acquired in exchange of nmt’s to search for villagers they do want more.

i’m not saying people don’t overprice, it really was an ugly thing, but this rarely happens anymore now as trading went down too. but when you get a good deal, there’s nothing to be ashamed of here. some people buy their nmt’s outside the game anyway. either via trading or tips.

I think my original post was kind of misunderstood. I don't think there's anything wrong with selling villagers, I was just wondering about really high prices they can reach sometimes.

I've bought villagers myself but for really small amounts of TBT (for example) which I see as more of a tip to the other person for taking the time to help me out, especially since sometimes just voiding villagers can be easier than searching for someone to adopt them and because I've gotten them from cycling threads sometimes. I've also received villagers for free, liking unpopular villagers is nice sometimes!

yeah seems like it was misunderstood. i was surprised how your question was about the high prices, then suddenly it became all about another thing. nothing wrong with trading your villagers, guys! or else getting villagers from other islands wasn’t an in-game option. it’s about how people abuse this “market”
