We've seen Fuchsia, Hamlet, Olivia, Eunice and Freya will be returning to the game, and it looks like villagers have a much more interesting role this time around. Are there any villagers that you think won't be making a return? I am hoping they will all be back, plus new villagers that we haven't seen before. I love that they will be paying off their own home loans, but it makes me wonder if we can have any influence in that. Can we give them bells to speed the process if we want to? And can we influence the exterior (and interior) looks of their houses? What if they decide to build an ugly house and it doesn't match the look of our town..? :/

It has been announced that there won't be any new personalities, and personally I'm fine with this. I just hope the personalities are a little more fleshed out than they have been in recent games (CF, NL). The dialogue has a tendency to be really bland and repetitive, so I'm hoping for more interesting options and more personality to the characters. In the orginal AC, craky and snooty villagers had a lot of sass and it was so much more fun to interact with.

Also, what do you think the maximum number of villagers will be? In the original AC it was 15, and personally I'm hoping we can have 15 once again. It feels more like a little village when it's actually full of animals.

I'm so excited for this game ;-;

I have a strong feeling that not all villagers will return. I think removing some in favor of new ones and reintroducing older characters that were not in NL seema likely.
I too wonder about whether or now we can influence villager homes. I think that it is very possible, but i can’t think of a way that they would incorporate that. I think it might be more likely that each villager’s house has a certain look but small aspects of the exterior can be customozed (such as the reith in the trailer).
I’m hoping that since they increased the size of the map, they will also increase the villager limit.

I hope their dialogues will be more varied this time around, it has become stale after a while in NL. Then I'm not even mentioning the tiny pool of sentences in PC...
I love that Fuchsia commented on the weather outside in the trailer! The fact that (so far) they seem to interact with the town more is making me hopeful in terms of variety.

Yes, this is true, but it’s funny you mention the weather because thats all my villagers ever seem to talk about.

I don't think they'll cut any villagers except maybe those Nintendo themed amiibo villagers (Ganon, Epona, etc). Maybe Beardo because he's kinda inappropriate but that would make me sad. Hopefully Champ will return.

I'm really hoping they will give them lots of dialogue and more true to their personalities. And each villager personality could do activities that reflect them. Jocks running around and playing sports, snootys gossiping and playing with makeup, lazy villagers sitting around and eating. Stuff like that.

At the very least, cranky villagers need to be rude and snooty villagers need to make you question your self esteem.

Oh, that's interesting! I haven't booted up my copy of NL in a while (sorry, Isabelle...) so I probably forgot about it! Though I faintly recall them only talking about it to me when outside, not when inside their house. But that might just be because I never had that opportunity pop up.

If they add in personality-specific activities like those, and make each personality feel more unique in dialogue, I won't ask for anything else in NH. That's the only other thing I desperately want that they haven't already shown us.

I am almost sure the sanrio villagers will not return. I am okay that there aren't any new personalities :) I hope my beloved animals make a return but I wouldn't be too sad if not. There are like over 200 animals and I think I will find someone I like haha

Hopefully as many villagers as possible return so everyone can get their favorites. But yeah, I expect some not to be there. The upside is most likely they will have some brand new villagers to make friends with and love.

I don't think it's a problem if they don't introduce more personalities as long as the animals have more things to say and more things they can do. The Gamecube game had less personalities than AC has now, but people didn't have an issue with that dialog due to just how many things they would say. They'd say all kinds of crazy things. Sure, some of it was mean and insulting, but they definitely expressed themselves well. We have no idea how the dialog will turn out, but it's clear to me that they will have more interaction they can do judging from the videos. They can sit on the ground and chill (like the part where Olivia is sitting by the river), they can hold things that aren't just tools, they can have more clothing options (long sleeves and dresses have been confirmed, as well as sheep actually wearing shirts), their eyes and heads follow things, etc.

They've also confirmed that the villagers will be more interactive in other ways. They will have debts to Tom Nook themselves and have evolving tent -> house status like the players. Their houses can be moved around. Who knows if you can help them with their debt, but it would be nice if players were given that option.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if their houses were more easily customizable (potentially inside and out) at this point. Wouldn't it be neat if they asked for your redecorating advice and you could be an interior decorator for them ala Happy Home Designer? Who knows if that will happen or not, but it'd be neat if so.

Considering you can have up to 8 players on an island, I feel like it makes sense to have more animals. I think we should have at least 15.

I honestly don't really care about which villagers are returning I'm just happy we're getting the game tbh...

But yes I do hope they let us house more villagers in New Horizons. It'd make sense too as the map is considerably bigger than New Leaf based on early estimations. Also since we can have up to 8 players at a time now that does have to mean that we're also getting more villagers per town right? At the same time I hope that there is more dialogue written for similar situations so that it feels less like you're talking to the same villager all the time except with a different look.

One thing I hope is that villagers are going to behave in the same way they did before New
Leaf. I started to really dislike those soft water-downed personalities of the villagers in NL, I
want in NH a cranky villagers yelling at me for what I'm doing with the island, want snooty
villagers to criticize my look and all that. If we were able to handle the rudeness of the
villagers back then, then we can handle it again, no need to treat us like babies who
can't take anything.

About the dialogue: Variety. Defently more variety. I know it's impossible that a villager
will not start to say the same thing again after a while, but pretty sure you can give the
dialogue so much variety that a villager will not start to repeat the same thing over and
over again after just a short time.

As for the villagers in general, I hope you can have more then 10 villagers again in this
game and I think that every villager will coming back. After all, if they want to make this
game the best one and to make it the best one, bringing back all villagers is a good step
to reach that goal. I think even those special amiibo villagers are able to come back at
one point (after all, Nintendo makes extra money when people buy amiibos to get these
villagers. Pretty sure they want not to miss this).

I don't think they'll cut any villagers except maybe those Nintendo themed amiibo villagers (Ganon, Epona, etc). Maybe Beardo because he's kinda inappropriate but that would make me sad.
Uh, did I miss something or since when is Beardo "inappropriate"? For me, he is just a normal
smug villager who looks like the original John Watson from the Sherlock Holmes stories as a
animal. Was there once something that people called him inappropriate or...?

If I may hazard a guess, I think the Sanrio characters can return; they just have to remove the Sanrio bits. ^^

I have no idea why people think beardo is weird, other then the fact that some of his fur below his shirt gives a strange impression (a joke I know is beardo the weirdo)

I mainly hope they flesh out their personalities. All of the animals are so friendly in NL, and I liked how in ACGC, the grouchy ones weren't as friendly, and some of them were really sassy.

I'm really hoping the villagers will be a little more lively.
I feel like they talked to each other a lot more in CF compared to NL. I just see them running into each other and bumping off each other all the time, or staring deadly into each other's eyes. I hope they have a little more conversations with each other because I love eavesdropping those, but it barely happens in my town. I really hope they'll bring that back again, don't just let them literally run into each other and ignoring each other completely but let them talk to each other when they cross paths.

Yeah, the dialogue will definitely be a much larger part of this game. I think one of the developers on the game has already confirmed this.

15 is still a good number. I think that if there were any more villagers it would be way too overwhelming. In a city setting, the more the better...but on an island..no.

I'm out of the loop, why is Beardo inappropriate? Lmao

This.

I'm not saying they'll cut him. But if they were going to cut anybody, I can see him on the list for his "suggestive" body hair.

I love him and I hope to see him in New Horizons.

I'm hoping the villager max is at least 12. If we have to make shops on the island, than I think 12 is a good number since we arent getting the biggest of maps.
