Visiting towns help

I have only been playing new leaf for a week, if I add someone am I able to visit there town if gate is open , or do they have to have my details too for me too visit.

If so could some one get in touch so we can be friends, this is cool....excited..

They will have to register your friend code as well in order for you to visit their town when their gate is open.
