Anyone here been to Washington, D.C. before?
I'm going there on a band trip this April and I've never been there before, actually. My mom went there in 1995 and 1999, and when she went in 1995, she actually saw then-President Bill Clinton and then-First Lady Hillary Clinton in the presidential limousine. She went with my dad in 1999 as they were married in 1997 and they didn't actually stay in the city then (I had a cousin who was living in Alexandria, VA, at the time) but they got to see a lot of cool things such as the Smithsonian. Anyways, if you've been they're before, could you give me some pointers?

I currently live sorta near DC, but I also spent my childhood in the area. I know a lot about DC and have been there many times.

There's multiple Smithsonian museums, actually. And they are gigantic - some of which (like Air and Space and Natural History) you could spend a whole day in by themselves.

It really depends on how much time you're going to have and what you're interested in. There's a lot of cool stuff to see, especially if you're into history and science. Do you have any specific pointers you want?

A band trip, do you have freedom to actually do stuff?

Washington D.C. is cool. But my trip there was way back in 2004. So it's been quite a while. =P

I want to go next year so I can participate in the March For Life.

I live probably an hour or two out depending on traffic/metro. Love hitting up the museums, honestly haven't done much besides that unless it's a concert at Warner Theater.

We are going together to see things like Smithsonian, yes.

Like others have said the museums are world-class and amazing. Anything run by the Smithsonian on the Mall is free. The National Air and Space Museum was the highlight for me, give that priority over others if you can.

Oh, yes, I've heard about how awesome that museum is too! I'm hoping we can visit it when we go in April.

I've been there to go to the Zoo there once. But I might go back there again because of the Switch event.

Been to DC multiple times. Usually for DC United games and once or twice for a Capitals game. I'm going again in about 2 weeks for the Nintendo Switch event.

I've been there once and it was in 2004. I was on a family trip at the time. It was a nice city from what I saw of it.

If you are going with a band, the leaders might keep you to a schedule. They might even hire a tour guide because there is so much to see. I traveled there over ten years ago with family and it was very overwhelming. We hit most of the museums and monuments (except for the Washington one, instead we went to an old post office because it is "a better view") in three days.

I would like to go this year and go on an embassy tour. There is a street nicknamed "embassy row", and some of them are open to the public. So it would kind of be like visiting a bunch of countries at once.

This thread made me want to visit the Smithsonian.

Make sure to view the White House before it gets covered in gold paint.

ooo i like it, the Gold House!

altho, if it turns out like most Trump-branded real estate projects, it will get shut down or go into receivership or somesuch...

Nope, I had the opportunity to go in school but wasn't really interested? I don't know, it just doesn't seem like the place I would want to go to, the buildings look neat and whatever but, meh, if I was to travel I'd want to go to better places.
