So I took my Yorkie, Muffin, to the vet today because she hasn't been putting much weight on her back left leg, and she's been limping for a few days now. The vet seemed to think that her kneecap had migrated to the side, which is apparently common in small dog breeds, especially when they're older (Muffy is 7, almost 8). She might have also torn a muscle in her leg, or broken a bone because she's a really active, crazy dog that likes to chase squirrels around the yard.

To find out for sure what's wrong, we're having to do an x ray, and some bloodwork. The bloodwork's mostly to figure out if her kidneys are functioning properly, because she'll need some pain medicine. If her kneecap has migrated, if she's torn a muscle, or if she's broken a bone she'll likely need surgery to fix it, which is going to be crazy expensive, and even after surgery, she'll probably have arthritis, meaning she'll have to take pain medicine long term.

On top of all of this, I found out she has fleas :/ It didn't get cold enough in Texas last winter to kill fleas outside (it was still in the 80s and 90s in December), so they've been multiplying like crazy since then and tons of people are having this problem. So now I have to deep clean my entire house end to end every day for anywhere from two weeks to a month, treat my yard, have my trees and hedges trimmed (because shaded areas attract fleas), bathe my dog (and cats, who are going to hate me for it), and administer flea meds to my 3 pets regularly to fix this problem.

I'm trying not to get overwhelmed by all of this, but I'm starting a new job next week (where I'll probably have to get up at 4:00 am to be at work by 5:00) and this just seems like the worst possible timing @.@ Thanks for reading this wall of text, if you did, and hopefully I've given anyone with pets some things to look out for. I'll probably post an update when we figure it all out. Her next appointment is in October.

Ohh, too bad. Good luck with everything!
I've never really had a problem with fleas and my dog because there only usually 1 or 2 so I just get rid of them and if one jumps away it dies on goes back onto the dog where you try to kill it again.

Oh no :( I'm paranoid about using preventative flea treatments for my dogs. I just couldn't cope if they ever had fleas. And it's not for the practical reasons of having to strip and clean everywhere....I just hate microscopic insects that bite you :(
I hope your little dog is okay, I used to have a yorkie, she lived to be 16 but wasn't without health issues. Just the common complaints for her age and breed. Miss her an awful lot, especially when I see somebody with a yorkie. They're lovely dogs

That's too bad, but I am sure things will get better. I have very active dog, and he is 14 years old bichon shih tzu. Just last year we had to have his ACL replaced (he literally ran it out). It was tough on him, he couldn't run or jump for three months. The biggest amount of activity was walking to the park to take care of his business.

Now, fast forward a year, and he is as happy as ever. He runs and barks like a maniac.

As crazy as things maybe right now, just take it day by day. That's all you can do, then it will soon be over.

That's nice to hear c: I'm glad your dog is doing well! Mine doesn't appear to be in any pain, and she still reaaally wants to run around and jump, but we're having to restrict her level of activity and take her outside in our back yard on a leash (which she hates). She's made some improvement since this all happened, and nothing about her personality or willingness to eat has changed, so I'm hoping she'll recover quickly.
