what are bells?

i noticed something called bells on the sidebar of my profile that goes up sometimes, what are they for? are they a currency for the forums? (sorry if this is a dumb question, i'm new! ^^

it's a forum currency obtained through posting on the forums (though certain places such as the bulletin board, introduction board, tbt marketplace, and basement don't give bells for posting) as well as occasional other methods such as gifts given out during tbt directs/occasional site events, event prizes, as well as during your birthday (so long as the system doesn't glitch out)

you can use it to purchase stuff from games like new leaf or pokemon and so on, as well as collectibles (the little square images under my avi in my sidebar)

you can also of course make tbt using these methods, as well as taking art commissions from people, just for a few examples

though if the item has a real-world value, it can't be bought or sold with tbt (ex: you couldn't sell a digital code for a game bought with money)

also, tbt/btb=the bell tree bells, the forum currency. while igb=in-game bells, the currency found in animal crossing games

These will make the number go down and you can also store them in the ABD in the shop

And to earn
you post things (make them related to the post or not be random becouse they might get removed) or sell things.

small correction here: editing posts doesn't strictly reduce your bell count

what it does is recalculate your post earnings and apply the new total while removing the old. so if you edit the post to be smaller, you'd earn less. while editing to add more would earn you more

Yeah I always got confused by that myself.

Earlier I edited a post and added on to it and:

Earned 2.0
Earned 2.1
Spent 2.0

Basically I earned 2.1 after finalizing my post.
