What are collectables and why are they so expensive?

I've seen them floating around but I don't really see why they're there.

And most importantly, how do I get them *-*

I don't want to blow my tbt on one item that probably isn't worth a ton.

And how do I gain more tbt I'm running out of items and ideas.

I'm just confused overall, can someone explain.

Collectibles are pretty much just neat things to collect, sell and trade. You can get them by restocks announced by directs in the Bulletin Board (or occasionally no announcement), events, and of course, buying them. You can also gain TBT by posting on different boards which give TBT (such as Brewster's Cafe, Bell Tree HQ, etc.), providing services, or selling collectibles. Collectibles themselves are expensive mainly due to rarity. Sometimes they may never be sold again, so their prices go up, such as the stale cake for instance.

Ooh, that makes sense. So in my case, I just have to raise some tbt in order to buy collectables, then I sell them? Is that how I get more tbt?
