Almost everyone knows the Jeopardy theme, but have you heard the original 1984 version that sounds totally different and is chock full of electronic energy in its first 30 seconds? It’s like the show is already building anticipation for what’s to come, even though it’s just Johnny Gilbert doing contestant introductions when it played. The theme sounded like this until 1989, then was shortened until the theme was completely redone in 1997 to sound more natural and closer to the present rendition, removing this intro altogether.
The 1984 theme seems to be a mix of disco, dance, electronic, and even a hint of experimental stuff within the intro. Only one episode from the first year of Trebek’s syndicated run can be viewed in full online at the moment - the very first one. You can watch it for free on Pluto TV if you’re interested.
