I was a head moderator of a role play group run on an app called kik. I had to handle alot of chat bots that would make their way through my group, and it was very hard to tell who was actually a real person, and who wasn't. The kind of chat bots I'm talking about, are the ones who have an legit member profiles, and join group chats.
I mean those bots that came through with images of hot woman were on thing. Chat bots were a whole lot worse.
It was a Dangaronpa roleplay group, we made our own characters, me, and my two second in commands, would design the story. I was always Monokuma, so where my second in commands. You joined our story, and had to agree to our terms.
Sometimes Id get DMs from members who thought someone was a bot. Or how they were nervous about roleplaying with a bot.
so I usually found the fake ones when I asked them to present their character's appearance, information, ultimate, and then agree to our terms. Lots of the bots fell flat on that, but some did present characters, It was a mess because sometimes you could have hunches but didn't want to say anything,
If we did have hunches we would talk to people, and that wasn't fun. I did however have to ask people if they were bots. It was part of our rules. Responses that were all like upset about that, most likely a real person. People who kinda gave a *meh* answer most likely a bot. But it hurt my mentality of how it came down to having to ask people that.
And yeah like some people mentioned above we had bots enter that just wanted to talk about shipping, or ship with your character. I remember one member was on while I was sleeping, and they ended up bringing in an AI chat bot to flirt with their oc because no one was on. Members can do as they please flirting wise, just had to keep it pg13 within the group chat, and that was not the lovely responses I read the next day from that little Ai bot flirting session. Then I had to deal with members who were uncomfortable and wanted one of us to get on and remove them. Which we did. But that was something else.
I could tell you many other stories dealing with well programmed bots that joined my group but there's too many. That alone is just sad.
It's one thing to have a phone app that is specifically made to chat with you, and one of those where it imitates a character. Those are all good and fine. I don't use them, but they're fine.
Rp chat bots. I hate them. Sorry got a little carried away, and personal. But I wanted to share my experience.
